With Wine & Dine approaching, I have begun to think about what I should do for food leading up to the race.

What are everyone's thoughts on the following:

- week leading up to the race
- day of race

We have less than 4 weeks until race day :sohappy:

We have a 2BR DVC unit. My plan is to go back to the room in the early afternoon, take a nap, and then eat something simple. Maybe an apple, and half a bagel with peanut butter.

For the week leading up to the race, I will be home (we get in on Friday) so I will pretty much eat my normal diet. I am not looking for record times here, just plan on running.

I ran 10 miles today, and in the prior 24 hours I had chicken wings, fries, onion rings, 6 beers, 2 eggs, and a slice of cheese. The diet of champions I know. Honestly I don't normally eat like that. Lots of fruit and veg, lean meats, and a decent amount of carbs. I will just make sure not to do any 'binge eating' the week before (no more going to the trailer in the woods and firing up the deep fryer I guess :) )

I'm going to do the same thing I did for the half marathon last january. Before the race I will eat sensibly, then after...........Let the binging begin!

We killed the chicken wings.

We had a campfire going and the deep fryer off to the side.

Me, my brother, and his wife just sat around the campfire for hours continuously frying (and eating) small batches of wings, fries, and onion rings. MMmmmmm

We dont have a DVC 2BR with kitchen area like I wish we had, but, got to make due with what we have. Breakfast will be some good eggs and cardy stuff. Lunch will probably be at Sunshine Seasons and Ill get a potato and some baked chicken. I think Ill have a banana and a bagel around 7pm. Ill wait till around 9:30 to have my stage 1 Gatorade pre game fluid 8 oz drink. Yummy.

Hopefully the after party will have some more common beers (domestic). I love some foreign or micro brews, but after a 13.1 run, for some reason, I like my beer to be a little light ei: mich ultra or coors light.

Normally for any race that I do I make sure I drink plenty of water and load up on the carbs the week of. Usually before the race, the day of anyway, I'll have either a small bagel or regular size bagel with peanut butter and of course my Gu pack about 20 mins prior to the start.

This is a unique event in the fact that it's at night, as most races are early morning, so you definitely do have to take that into account. I would probably have a big breakfast followed by a light lunch - grilled chicken salad maybe, and then follow your pre-race routine in the late afternoon.

Back on subject.....I learned in college that nutrition is mostly about what you eat the 2 days before your event...particularly the 24 hrs before.

The day before I always some sort of large-ish past a meal....something solid with a lot of carbs.

Race day is all about eating something that gives me another source of fuel without turning my stomach...usually a bagel and a banana.

Wellllll, having spent a week in the World prior to the TOT 13K last year eating every Disney delicacy in sight, and running the race on a full stomach from just having eaten an enormous dinner at Le Cellier immediately prior to the race, perhaps I am not the right person to ask! :ROFLOL:It wasn't exactly my shining race performance. LOL

I normaly run after work, not in the morning. I eat lunch at around noon, and then go home, grab a banana or some peanut butter, just to take the 'edge off' and then run.

I am expecting the 10:00 PM run to be the same, just fast foward about 4 hours. I think it would be more trouble for me if it was around 7 PM. By 10 PM dinner is a distant memory, and I am pretty much back to empty stomach.

I ran once using the Gatorade 3 step thing. It was a horrible run. Maybe because of the Gatorade thing, maybe not, but I have not tried it again. I'll stick with what I know works. Simple food and water before hand, water and if necessary Gu Cranberry/Apple w/Caffine during, and water and/or Gookinade after (and a banana)

I ran this past Saturday super early so I had to do a breakfast that was really light. I saw that Gatorade in the store (the 3 step stuff). I tried the Step 1 (pre game stuff) and it seemed to really be nice. Ill probably use it saturday week from now when I have 14 miles to do and then again before W&D.

I guess I have a strong rock solid stomach. I know you arent suppose to mix types of substances, but I did the Step 1 gatorade 15 minutes before, a GU packet at 45 minutes and 80 minutes while having 50/50 water and powerade in my water belt. I have never experience the "sudden bathroom break" that people describe from mixing different types of stuff.

Huh. :D

I rarely need to stop for the bathroom, and have never had to stop 'suddenly' for um, lets say non-water-consumption-related reasons.

The Gatorade just did not do anything for me. I just felt drained of energy the entire run. I was also very thirsty. Again, it may have been something else not related to the Gatorade.
