Well, our Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Fantasy is looming large. We depart a week from Saturday. I have cruised a few times on other lines (once on Holland America Line back in 2000 on an old ship, the Noordam, once on Royal Caribbean, and once on Norwegian CL on their Pride of America that steams around the Hawaiian islands). In terms of cruising itself, Disney seems about the same (days at sea, days in-port where you can do on-shore excursions for a price, private island, etc.). Disney, of course, has their family-oriented brand that you pay a premium for and the mystique of Disney immersion on a cruise ship surrounded by Disney theming, characters and such. Most cruise lines offer drink packages for those who plan to imbibe a lot and will get better value from a package. Disney doesn't offer this at all, something I thought was odd. I personally don't drink enough to justify it, but thought it was a fairly standard cruise offering.
Outside of the cruise itself comes the challenge of travel to and from the port. I live in Daytona Beach and we have a party of six which is too many for my small SUV to accommodate (only room for five butts). So I did some research on shuttle services/Uber/Limo and was shocked at how expensive it is. Some limo company wants $345 each way. Uber and Lyft want about $200 each way for an XL sized vehicle. Parking at the cruise terminal is $17/Day so screw it! We're taking two cars and will still save money.
