we will be going over in 2 weeks :sohappy:
and we are sorting out our cash is it worth just taking our money in pounds or get travellers cheques the last time we was away we took travellers cheques but we got a charge when we used them and when we got back the rate had fallen so we lost even more cash.
do you get charged when swapping pounds for dollers.

Yes, there is always a conversion charge...I have always found it easiest to just use my ATM or visa card. You will incur bank charges as anytime you withdraw money, but you will not incur any fees for conversion. Similarly, you can use your visa or MC card anywhere in the park, and it will be deducted from your account at the end of the day in real-life pounds, not dollars, again at no conversion charge. Whenever I travel around Europe, I use only my ATM card to withdraw money.

I second that...I did the same thing for 6 months when I lived in London and using you ATM card is the best scenario. I actually ran into problems with Travellers cheques over there. No one would take them. I had to get them cashed at a bank (and paid a fee- 3 quid everytime). If you think you'll need cash, use your ATM card at an ATM in the parks to get cash, don't waste your time with Travellers cheques!

Bring some cash/travellers cheques for little things - road tolls plus odds and sods etc. At the parks you can use Visa or Mastercard practically everywhere - even the ice cream stands.

However, check with your card supplier / bank to see if they charge you a fee per transaction abroad. If so, open an account with Nationwide and put your spending money in there (make sure they can get the Visa Debit card to you in time for the trip) Nationwide do not charge for international conversion. That way you get better exchange rates than buying cash/cheques at a Bureau de Change.

If you're staying at a Disney resort use the room card to charge purchases. (you will need a credit card to do this) That way you don't need to worry about losing your credit card and everything you purchase will be on one bill at checkout so that even if there are international service charges they will only be for the one final purchase. This is what we do (we're from Canada) and it always works great.

Good idea - still check if your bank is going to add a few unwanted percent to the credit card bill.

Yep, about the only thing that you can't charge to your room is food from the small snack carts in the parks

You should definitely check with your bank about fees before using your atm/switch card/cc overseas.

One of my bank atm cards charged me $7 everytime I took money out while abroad in Cannes. I ended up paying $35 in fees that trip.

i took cash with me (dollars) then split the money into how long i was staying, thenat the start of each day i put the daily amount onto the disney gift cards you see around, so if the daily budget was $50 dollars i topped up each day with the $50 so i didnt have to carry cash around to all the parks. then i could leave everything else at the resort room safe.you can get a miniture gift card from the water parks stores that go around your wrist.
then when you come to pay for anything food included you can just swipe it off the card
if your keep track of it and you just keep topping it up to the fifty dollars each day you can save money too!!
hope that makes sense!!
great for kids to i got one for my daughter and put a daily amount onit then she could buy what ever she wanted and when it was gone it was gone! like a kids credit card!

The ATM on property charges a transaction fee, I don't recall if it is different prices from the resort to the parks, but do remember many years ago going to use one at EPCOT and it was $5 and that didn't include the transaction fee from MY bank.
