In the ongoing question of whether Project Gemini will ever happen, I came across an interesting bit of news on screamscape. According to them, the names Discoveryland, Global Village and SSE:Time Racers have all been trademarked by the Walt Disney Company.
As we might remember, Discoveryland and SSE:Time Racers were new names that might be used in the "new" Epcot. (Jim Hill article)
I checked this out myself at the the United States Patent and Tradmark Office: Trademark Electronic Search System and found out that this is in fact true (go to: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=107jlr.1.1 and click on Free Form Search. Simply enter "Disney" and the results come up)
According to that site, Disney filed for the rights to the names Discoveryland and Global Village on Nov. 18, 2002 and the name SSE: Time Racers on Dec. 4, 2002. This was just a few months ago.
It looks like this project is real and moving along. We will have to see what happens next.
