Possible test marketing for Villians concept?

Okay, this one is for the members with deep sources or who are deep sources themselves.

I was looking through the latest Disney Store catalogue Halloween edition, and noticed the two and a half pages of new villians merchandise. Tumblers, martini glasses, shaker, plates, glasses, ice bucket, wine glass charms, coasters, tee shirts, and a five piece desk set. All with villian theming

My first thought was marketing appropriate for "older kids" who wouldn't be ashamed to have some Disney theming at their "older kids" Halloween parties.

Then I started wondering: what if this is some test marketing to determine the popularity of a villians park/land concept? The forums have had many a discussion about a fifth park aimed to "older kids," or at least a current park expansion that would be aimed at the same market. Could this possibly be some testing to see if the investment would be a wise idea for Disney?

How about it, those of you with the deep sources...any whisperings at the proverbial water cooler? Or do I need to stop chewing used gum I find in the parking lot at Wal-Mart?

You're reading way too far into things. It's Halloween. Halloween always brings out the villians merchandise -- because they're villians and it's Halloween. It has absolutely nothing to do with test markets or new ideas.

There just is no villians park. Sorry..

I agree with Montu. Reactions from a very small amount of people (the number who get the catalog), during the season for the item (Villians/Halloween), would just not be significant enough to make a decision on the popularity of Villians. It's just too narrow and too skewed of a field.

Maybe no park, but there is a land...

But Montu is right, the villians merchandise is actually a big seller, and Disney knows this already. Halloween is just when it gets a little more popular.

The Disney Store Cataloge is in now way connected to the parks. Although it is still under the Disney Corporation 'umbrella", it is not connected to any part of the theam park management or imagineering at all. It's simply a merchandice magazine for Disney.

But DIsney can still look in to the ordering results and see what people like. Although the Divisions aren't together I am sure they can use one another for research and development.
