Rumor from Screamscape that the coronado might be closing down as well! It seems people have been trying to make reservations and Disney is turning them away!

This is believable, CS is a "business traveller" resort, although a great family place as well. It is a very large resort and has 45 meeting rooms and over 100 VIP suites.

With all the cutbacks in travel at many corporations, shutting down CS for awhile probably makes sense.

We will arrive at WDW on Sunday. We stay at OKW where the CM are generally really nice. I'm going to ask the bartender at the Gurgling Suitcase what's up.

If there's anything juicy to report, we'll let ya know.

Oh yeah, I'll have a cold one for all of you as well.

i don't understand why they would be closing two of the moderates though!! To me, that seems like the best priced rooms for most people and isn't Pop Century suppose to be a moderate resort as well. It doesn't make sense to close a couple and keep building a new one.:veryconfu

Do you think that most of these are temporary and why would they be turning people down if they need the funds?

Pop Century is a "value" resort..... Coronado is very nicely appointed, but as most people know... It's a long way from anywhere when you are there.....I think that it was Disney's answer to the business/convention/conference center at Swan and Dolphin....It just didn't materialize like they wanted. Turn it into a value resort and the place will be packed out.....by the way... the rooms ... the exact floor plan as AS...!:)

Hmmm...I like that idea. One thing is some businessmen don't want to be around the "kiddies", so I would think having...I don't remember the names...the one section on the left a business section and the other two for everyone else. They would also need to work on the food court...that' 10% tip garbage is not attractive to...well...ANYBODY...it was my biggest complaint there...ya wait in a big line to get in...and pay 10% more for them to take your trays away...I'd rather throw my own food out and have the prices more reasonable...PLUS...we all KNOW the money doesn't go to the servers ANYWAY...that's why it's tagged on at the register...it probably pays Eisner's bonus...other than the food court, I loved Coronado...a LOT of walking, though...even w/ the bridge (it must have been horrible when it first opened w/o the bridge...)
KYLE!!!!!:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

Last April we made park reservations for the week between Christmas and New Years. All of the value and moderate resorts were already full except for the Coronado, which I'm sure also filled up as it was the only one left. Where are they going to put all these people that week?

well, I was going to stay at Pop Century, so when they decided to postpone its opening, they offered us a free upgrade to a moderate hotel or a discounted fare at a deluxe hotel. We obviously took the deluxe, but...why not give those people at Coronado a free upgrade to a deluxe???

I called for the coronado in january and they told me that it was sold out. maybe its just sold out. they also said that the carribean beach was sold out. I don't think that they would close all the moderates.

Yes the Coronado is a business property/convention property but and traveling convention business is down and but it's also a very new property so this is really gonna have to be a stretch for Disney to close down a property which probably hasn't even payed for itself yet. By the way if Disney is closing down it's only real conference based property I can't imagine what is going on at Opryland which is very conference based, The huge 2000 room Marriott World Center, and the Peabody next to the convention center

We're going down with some friends the latter part of January and they just changed their reservations from All Star Movies to the Coronado and had no problems.

I thought you looked familiar!.. Mr. Staying-At-The-AKL-For-DIrt-Cheap! Glad to see that you made it here from the email message group. I think you will find that the people over here will be a lot more appreciative of your imagination. They won't pick on your age, either ;)

We are going to WDW beginning 11/27. We were originally booked at POFQ. When they decided to close it during that time, we requested Coronado Springs as our alternate. We got the reservation with no problem. Maybe they aren't taking any NEW reservations at Coronado until they have the original POFQ guests settled in alternate hotels. I was very disappointed when they closed POFQ. I would really come unglued if they decide to close Coronado in the next three weeks!!

To add to this, Disney is sending out postcards with some crazy deals on them to people who have stayed there in the past. We just got one in the mail for Animal Kningdom Lodge for $134.00  We were booked on a land/sea deal at Wilderness but changing to AKL saved us like 300 bucks for the 4 days. I guess in this case it backfired on Disney but we have some friends that, as I mentioned earlier were booked at AS Movies for the 4 days we are there and they got something in the mail for Coronado at $89.00 a night so they jumped at that. Disney is getting a few bucks more out of them.

At any rate they are definitely not closing Coronado if they are sending out specials to people in the mail.

Also, the CSR were very tight about these deals and in fact made our friends give them some numbers off the card since it was sent to the woman's maiden name and they wanted to make sure the right person was using it.

I booked a room Monday morning (11/05) for three nights at Coronado Springs from 11/23 - 11/26 for $89.00 a night. I used the rate code from Mousesavers.com that is also on the WDW website!! I have never stayed there, but checked out the link below that has a lot of pictures and info about the resort

http://steve.howland.org/coronado/

It looked nice to me and is the newest of the moderates, so I figured for that price, why not. I had really wanted to stay at POFQ to see if it compared to the "real New Orleans". It had to be cleaner! We usually stay at one of the deluxe or home-away-from-home resorts, but decided to go a little less extravagent this trip since it is my third this year and so close to Christmas!! But,, I figure, at least I'm going to Disney World!!!
:sohappy: :sohappy:

(Opps, and I errored earlier when I said that Pop Century was another moderate -- sorry for any confusion!! I should have realized with the gaudy oversized lawn ornaments that it was a value resort!! Just doesn't fit my taste in resorts!!)
