The Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando is undergoing a $5.5 million hotelwide room renovation. All 750 rooms and suites are getting makeovers with new color schemes, carpeting, artwork, DVD players, lamp shades in all guest rooms, and etageres in the bathrooms.
Beds are getting duvet covers of woven custom fabric in hues of warm greens and cream, with white goose-down inserts, chenille throw accents and extra large bolster pillows. Windows are getting lace curtains.
Colors "evocative of the sun and sea" are being used throughout to complement the hotel's romantic Italian villa theme, said Karen Daroff, president of Daroff Design, which is spearheading the project for Loews Hotels. General Manager Paul Leclerc said the colors and fabrics "are ideal choices" that will "add to the luxury experience" of the hotel, one of 18 owned or operated by Loews in the United States and Canada.
A different block of rooms is taken out each week for renovation, and the work is scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
