Port Orleans buses?

We'll be staying at the Port Orleans resort this summer in a separate room from my daughter and her little ones. We stayed once before at the Key West resort. We were fortunate to have units near the office and the bus stop to the parks, so the trip to the parks was fairly quick (meaning we didn't need to take a bus around the resort to get to the bus stop to the parks). Looking at a map of Port Orleans, it looks to be as big as Key West resort, with multiple bus stops to where you catch the bus to take you to the parks. Am I seeing it correctly? Is it the same set up- a bus to get to the bus? Can anyone give us an idea which buildings are close to the bus stop for the parks, or has the bus system changed? We'll be carrying a two yaear old, so the less time spent riding buses the better! Thanks so much for your help- can't wait for this trip!

I believe it is like most Moderates in that it has multiple bus stops and buses from each park stop at each bus stop. No main bus hub that an inter resort bus takes you to.

if it is riverside; you will want to be in either a preferred room (alligator bayou) or #85 mansion. These would be the best options for the main bus depot which is in front of the hotel. The bus stops there first before going around the resort to the other two stops. However; i will tell you ; that the bus always seems to fill up at the main depot (mornings) and will not always be able to pick up anybody at the other stops. On the return trip; it is better to get off at the depot which is closer to your location.

Sounds like from the way you are describing it you are staying at Riverside. We've stayed at both Riverside and French Quarter. As @Rodb says you might want to stay near the main bus stop. On the French Quarter side the resort is much smaller and has only one bus stop out front. The other issue you may or may not encounter is the busses going between both Riverside and French Quarter. They obviously fill up much quicker that way. It is up to Disney how they operate the busses between the two resorts.

We will be at the French Quarter. Nice to know that there's one bus stop! Thanks for your help everyone- we appreciate it very much!

Also a note to the OP... I think you may have been misunderstanding/mis-remembering the bus situation at Old Key West.

While there *is* an internal shuttle that you can take around the resort, it's not necessary to take a bus to get to where you get on a bus to the parks. All buses heading to the parks stop at all OKW bus stops. The same is true at most of the multi-bus-stop Disney resorts.

The only exceptions to this are the Fort Wilderness campground, where you have to take one of the internal campground shuttles to one of two Depots to change to a bus or boat to the parks, or the Treehouses at Saratoga Springs where you either take a shuttle (or boat) to the main SSR building or you walk over to the Grandstand bus stop to get to the parks.

We had good luck with buses at the French Quarter, there will always be times that are a little busier but love FQ.

Thanks everyone for your answers! Now one more quick question- the more I read on the forum, the better I can plan. We are planning a swim day at typhoon lagoon. Can we take towels from the resort or should we bring some? Again, my thanks to all who participate here!

Upgrade to a pool view and you're guaranteed to not be far from he front of the resort.

If they are staying at riverside; there isn't a great need to upgrade to a pool view since magnolia manor or a preferred alligator bayou room will get you the closest to the bus/pool/food court.

Just an FYI about buses... in the morning- you will most likely only make the stop at French Quarter before going to the parks. However, at less busy times, you will pick up at FQ first, then continue on to all the stops at Riverside. Coming back, you will be dropped off first at FQ.

About the towels, I'm not sure but I think that they have towels there.... Have a great trip!

They have towels you can rent at the water parks, but we usually just grab a couple towels from the main pool, then put them in the towel return at the water park.
