POR Lobby Work ?

I have reservations at POR for 05-5-12 to 05-12-12. When I made the reservation I was aware that they were working on some of the rooms in phases on certain BLDGs. The agent that made the booking for me verified that but advised it was in phases and that I will not see major construction or refurb walls. MY next question was if any of the public areas such as lobby/restaurant/stores were going to be worked on. The agent advised me that no. Now I see on another WDW fan website that there will be work on the lobby during the dates of my stay. I am extremely annoyed and upset to say the least. My question is if any one has any information verifying that they will be working on the lobby and if so how extensive will the work be and what will be affected? Also if anyone has had such issues before and what have they done about it, exp. complain to WDW or the hotel and what result/answers they have gotten.

Thanks for all info !

Refurbishment work is scheduled for the main lobby. Plans include painting and new carpet. A portion of the River Roost Lounge closest to the atrium and gift shop will be utilized for registration. Different sites vary when reporting the time frame. According to The Mouse for less: "Port Orleans Riverside Resort will undergo refurbishment of the Lobby/Atrium area from April 9 through May 25, 2012." The unofficial site www.portorleans.org has limited information right now. You may want to call the resort directly at 407-934-6000.

Spot On.

River Rooster is spot on.The reason for the lobby renovations is they have just realised that the Real Mad Hatter is coming for a 14 day vacation in July :ROFLOL: Ok,let's get serious,I would doubt that it will cause mayhem,it's not like a building construction site has took up shop.Iam sure it won't spoil your vacation, unless your intending to spend all your time at the resort.

Thanks for the info. As I stated in my OP I will be there from May 5-12. Do you or anyone else have more details as what they will be renovating. Will it be just the check in area or other parts of the lobby such as the shops. Will they be renovating only the interior or also the exterior? All info is greatly appreciated.

We just left POR this a.m. after a week, and the entire left side of the Lobby was walled up for refurb. All check-in was being handled on the right side. Concierge, dining, etc was straight at the end. The walk from the lobby down to the Arcade was also walled in. We talked to some of the "painters" on Tuesday p.m. about 10 p.m as they were preparing to work. Since they had on their coveralls, construction helmets, etc., my husband asked them if they were going to perform with songs or if they were going to play buckets and trashcans!:lookaroun A couple of them knew right away what we were talking about but 1 or 2 weren't sure. Finally, one of the guys said, "well we play 5 gal. buckets!"

The atrium was completely cleared out on Tuesday, and some 3 or 4 chairs and a sofa from the lobby were moved in the next day for guests. We never heard any construction noise, just saw the painters, so we're not sure how extensive this refurb is.

From what I was told last month, the plan was always that it would run into June, but at that point nothing else was mentioned regarding other areas in the main part of the resort.

There is more info up on the portorleans.org site with the details about phases and what is being changed. With most work being done overnight the noise and disruption will be pretty minimal.
