Walt Disney World Resort Announces Dec. 14 Opening Date for Disney's Pop Century Resort

I can now make reservations for POP CENTURY!!!

Travel agents can now book reservations for Disney's newest value-priced resort - Disney's Pop Century Resort. Opening Dec. 14, 2003, the 2,880-room, first phase of Disney's Pop Century Resort will send clients on a trip through American popular culture spanning the 20th Century.

The whimsical resort will feature two phases - the Legendary Years of the 1900s-1940s and the Classic Years of the 1950s-1990s.

Located near Disney's Wide World of Sports® Complex, Disney's Pop Century Resort will include two 5,000-square-foot arcades; Disney's first integrated food, beverage and shopping area; eight courtyards; six pools in wildly-fun shapes; two playgrounds; and recreational paths for riding surrey bikes around Hourglass Lake.

After completion, Disney's Pop Century Resort will join Disney's All-Star Resorts in offering a combined total of more than 11,500 rooms in the value category, priced from $77-$109 per room, per night.

from the cast portal:

Al (Weiss) also announced that phase one of Disney's Pop Century Resort will open on Dec. 14, and that guests can make reservations now.

The new value-priced resort will celebrate the fads, dance crazes, catch phrases, toys, technology and breakthroughs that defined each decade of the 20th century. Larger-than-life icons, themed pool areas and more will support the resort's retro theme.

Phase one of the resort is called the Classic Years and highlights pop culture from the 1950s-1990s. Phase two, the Legendary Years, highlighting the 1900s-1940s, will open at a date to be determined.

Phase 2 only has 2 out of the 10 Buildings even constructed yet. The Main lobby building is also up, but not yet done eather. The fundations for 6 out of the 7 unbuilt buildings have NOT yet even been poored. No theming on the 2 built buildings yet eather. This half of the resort is still at least a year away.

My question is, with phase 2 being the one you see first as you drive in, the construction will be very visible to guest staying in phase 1. Does any know if that was a problem when they built Movies after Sports/Music was already open? I mean with the noise and all the trucks?

Does anyone have a map of the phase that will be open in December? I am wondering what the themeing of each building is and its location.

Thanks

Alright, nobody get mad at me for saying this, but I think that by far this is the ugliest resort I have ever seen in my whole life. It's just a huge eyesore. I passed by it everday when I would go to work and I couldn't believe that Disney would build something like that.

I think that, so far, it's the only hotel in the resort that's truly Disney, besides ASMo. Those two are the ones that you can go to and see the characters as they truly are, larger than life and, to me, that beats staying at a Caribbean or a Hawaian beach.

I haven't seen any larger than life characters, maybe they've added more since I've last seen it. All I've seen are giant tacky objects like a cellphone, a bowling pin, and a rubic's cube. I still think they could of made it look more like a resort and less like a cheap carnival.

At last, someone has actually said that they think its an eyesore.

I agree... it does like ugly. At least with the All Star Movies you have giant characters like dalmations and buzz lightyear. Everybody loves those...

Not so sure everyone loves a giant cellphone!?!?!?

Maybe you guys should look for more pics before saying ahything, then. There's Mowgli, Baloo, Lady, Roger Rabbit, and others, I'm sure.

As for the giant objects, yeah, they are tacky, and so are the phrases. But they're not much worse than Cowboy boots, a set of drums or a football, and yet many Guests love both All-Stars Music and Sports. Their price range is the only option for International Guests like me to stay in property often. Hey, who knows, maybe we'll grow to love all the tacky stuff at Pop Century as well... :lookaroun

Anyone got the pictures of mowgli, baloo and roger?

Id love to see em, and promptly admit im wrong about it being an eyesore - just the pictures ive seen so far dont make it look that appealing...

If you do a search on the Pop Century threads we have around, I'm sure you'll find them. They're pretty much the only pictures released about it. They were sure to "slip" only the good stuff!
