POP Century for a couple

My wife wanted to take a 1 week November vacation and out of the blue suggested Disney (I am the big Disney Fan and she is usually luke warm). It would just be the two of us, we were looking at different options with the disney meal plans included for free and are trying to decide. We do not need a deluxe resort so we are looking at POP and CBR. WE have been to CBR before and loved it, but we are hedging to something new. CSR is rather pricey for a moderate so that is out and we have been to PORS already. What is the thought of POP for a middle age couple. We do not mind children (rasied three boys) so that is not a down for us. I know everyone has there own opinion but I always appriciate others insite as it often brings up other points that I may have overlooked.
Thanks

One of the best things for us is trying new places. We like POP just fine. Our goal is to someday try them all, or most of the Disney resorts anyway. It is fun trying new places, so when we decide to go, one of the deciding factors is have we been there before? If so, even if it is a place we love, we will usually try something else because we have not stayed there yet. I know some people only like to pick their favorite place and keep going back to where is comfortable, but part of the fun for us (no kids couple in our 50s) is trying different places. We have made it to about half the WDW resorts so far and have not regretted any of them. So far only one repeat and that is VWL. Love it.
If you do decide on POP, make sure to take the time to walk over and explore AoA. Over the top theme there.

About the only really bad thing about the value resorts are the double beds. They are workable for 2 people, but I have found the queen size beds at PORS, FQ and CS to be much more comfortable.

You can request a king bed room at the values, but it is kind of a crapshoot as to whether you will get one.

If you loved CBR, then maybe try a split stay. Go to POP for the first 2-3 days and then finish out the week at CBR. That way you can try something new, but still have the comfort of looking forward to something you already know you liked.

just as a heads up the walls are paper thin!!! My wife and i stayed there once during "off season" and couldnt' stand hearing our neighbors walking in late at night and staying up late. Buses were pretty bad too. They always seemed to have a line to GO to the parks. i expected to be busy after parks close but long lines to just get to a park was disappointing. I don't think we would stay there again. Personally feel it's well worth the extra $$ for moderate at least.

The Values are all really cute, but they aren't very relaxing. The rooms (and the beds) are small. If I stick with a mod. If I couldn't afford the mod, I'd go stay somewhere nice offsite.

We have been to WDW four times and stayed at Pop all four trips. We had the kids and my brother and mother in law with us every trip though, but do plan on heading back down in early 2015, just the two of us, and will probably stay there again. I wouldn't mind trying other resorts actually, but my wife has the mindset that the room is only for sleeping in, therefore, why spend money on something that you are only using to catch a few Zzzz's! Who am I to argue with this logic! :D

I really do like Pop though, so am happy to stay there again to be perfectly honest. LOVE the theming and it has become my home away from home while down there!

I like to try a different one each time. Ive stayed at all the mods, one deluxe, and allstar. Loved them all. This time we are staying at POP. Have free dining so we upgraded to the regular dining plan. Going Nov 30. Cant wait.

I agree about the mattresses at PORS. Sleeping on a bed there was like sleeping on a cloud. There was a brochure about the resort's mattresses on the bedside table, and I took it home. The mattresses are kinda pricey, but I'm determined to save up and get one. Best night's sleep I ever had in my life.

I did that, too.

I have yet to stay in the tree houses, though. I keep waiting for a special reason, lol.

My husband and I ( 49 and 55) have stayed at Pop by ourselves and loved it! If you do not spend alot of time at the resort then Pop is great. If we were they type to want to sit around the pool then I definitely would look for a quieter resort. We love the fact that Pop has its own bus and very easy to get around!

Thanks everyone
WE are still undecided but I like the ides of trying something new. The only thing is we do spend sometime at the resort especially in the evening. so that might hedge us toward CBR.

My husband and I stay at the Pop a lot. We don't have any problems with it, we really spend most of our time at the parks. The buses have always been the best here.

One Little Spark...
For a middle aged couple, I'd look at getting into AoA instead. For one reason, the rooms / furnishings are relatively new.

As a resort, I enjoyed Pop. Fantastic bus coverage, pretty good food court, very clean overall. But, I found the room a tad bare, and everything just felt worn (like...Econo Lodge style worn). Still, I wouldn't bat an eye at staying there again. The bus coverage alone (and the fact you can also hop on an AoA bus as well) is a great benefit.

Only other thing I'd say, look for a room in the 50's or 60's garden section. Do not pay extra for a "preferred" room near the hippy dippy pool. It's not that far a walk from the garden section, but the walls and windows are thin, and the pool can get quite loud.

It looks like we are hedging for the POP. Any suggestions on which buildings or room would others who have staid recommend.
Thanks

We've stayed at Pop three times, twice in the 50s and once in the 60s. For us, it's all about proximity: the distance from the room to our car and from the room to the food court. The 50s works well in that respect. Parking is plentiful and close, and the food court is convenient.

I would say request in the 50s section this will still keep you close to the main hall but not in the middle of the hubbub. We have stayed several times at POP and requested a king bed and they were able to accommodate us on 2 of the 3 occasions. I was never bothered by the noise at POP but after a full day in the parks they probably could have blew off a bomb and I would have slept through it. ;) Spend some time in the main lobby looking through all the shadow boxes on the wall from the various decades. Enjoy your trip.

Ha! Disneyworld didn't exist in the 50s or 60s. How do you like being caught in a lie, Mr. Poopyhead?

I stayed at the POP in a room that overlooked one of the pools. Way to loud for way to long at night. Other than that, I liked it A-OK.
