Just left the mk at 1020 to see the electrical water pageant since tonight was a late midnight close. First the ewp passed with lights on but no music (and early at 1015). Next off to the gf and the private dock is closed. Have to board on the main dock with the contemp and wl boats. Two boats came at once and the gf launch just sat there for 10 min until there was an open position. Why close the private dock?

The private Grand Floridian dock was closed? Man, having to board the boat from the Grand Floridian main dock with the steerage passengers from Wilderness and Contemporary must have been a traumatic experience. I hope you recover!

I'm going to make a bold assumption that the OP was referring to the Gold Flag Line dock leaving from MK, which services Grand Floridian and Polynesian. Not really a private dock of any sorts, but just the designated pick up for those locations. In any case, there could have been any number of issues with the dock prompting it's closure, the most likely case being a safety issue. As for the OP's using the word "private" to describe this dock, I don't think it was intended to sound the way it did. Just replace the word "private" with "designated" in your head when you read the post.

There are no boats to the Contemporary at the MK. The easternmost (closest to Ferry Boat) dock is almost always closed. The GF and PL dock (Gold Route) is closest to the monorail. It *may* have closed down early since it was a late park close. You should have taken the resort monorail.

Im assuming you meant the dock at the magic kingdom, that generally serves only the gold route (the west angle dock...). the reason this dock is closed is because its a permanent dock. (meaning it doesn't float and rise/lower with the water levels the way the main dock does.) so to make it safe to have people get on and off the boats when the water levels are low due to drought, (like now) they have to dock at the floating dock.

I have heard that the 5 year plan for watercraft does include plans for floating docks on both sides of that main dock... so dont worry you wont have to wait with the Charlatans for long.
