Polynesian room question?

Has anyone ever stayed at Polynesian's Tuvalu rooms?

Did you have to do a special fax room request to get this location?

I wanted to fax a request in order to get a really good water view room for our upcoming stay, and I was looking at the poly resort map on allearsnet.com and saw that Tuvalu and Tahiti are closest to the beach. I think Tuvalu will be better since it is closer to the Lobby/GC House.

12 days til WDW

Thanks.

We stayed Tokelau our 1st and only so far trip at Poly. It was Dec 13th to 20th 2001 (we got a great deal too 189 a night!) No specail request. We thought it was a good location, wasn't a "water view" but we could see the water, castle and the quiet pool. It was close to main building, but close to TTC too.

We didn't plan to go that trip, Hubby found that great deal and we couldn't pass it up. It was so much fun (and the trip that lead to us buying DVC!)

You can make a request and if they have a room available for you, of course they will put you there (they make more $$$ if you stay in a lagoon view room). I noticed that you are going VERY soon. It may be to late to meet your request, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. The time that you're going is a time when the crowds start picking up. Good Luck!!!

When you made your reservations is when you should have made your preferences known. Faxing really does no good, but, you could call CRO and have them amend your request.

Gail Hayden - I thought faxing a room request 4 days in advance was one way to better aid in requesting a room? I read this on several forums. PS. I moved from Cheshire, CT a few years ago

Anyway, I did what you said and called CRO and added a general room request for near GC House, MK view, upper floor - I think most lagoon view rooms meet these criteria, except maybe way out in Tahiti, which seems far from the main building/GCHouse.

Sure Lagoon view costs more, but to me it is worth it, and my son will love it even more.

The last two times we've gone, my girlfriend has faxed a room request a couple of days before we got there and we got the rooms we wanted no questions asked.

Some people do fax requests, but, faxes get lost sometimes and by the time you send them a lot of the assignments are already given out. If you request them via CRO, they are on the reservation when the resort gets them (somewhere between 4-7 days in advance). Why repeat the information you have already given them? :)

I love Cheshire, it is lovely. Where did you go?

The last few times I have not used DVC I have just told CRO what I wanted and have received exactly what I asked for. Why waste your time and money faxing?

Faxing isn't that expensive, really...

I have had good luck in the past by telling CRO and then faxing 4 days in advance - we got great rooms at AKL and Yacht Club this year.

Went to Delaware - veterinarians are in high demand here, as well as Cheshire, but I grew up in DE and the cost of living is better than CT. A little less snow too, but we still get some in DE.

I was hoping to find out about a good room number and building based on other board members' prior experiences at Poly with lagoon/water view?

I stayed in the tuvalu building on 3/04 and 5/04 with the lagoon view. I personally like this building. you can see when the boat is coming to take you to mk and the view of the fireworks from your room is good. I am going down on new years eve and I hope I can get a 3rd floor room in tuvalu. But I am partial to the polynesian because of memories being there as a kid when my parents took me there.

Just an update, faxing is slowly being phased out as a way to request items at the resorts. You now need to go through CRO. The Wilderness Lodge no longer accepts any requests by fax, and the other resorts in WDW are expected to follow suit. Besides, CRO is much easier than faxing. :)

The first time I was there they put me in tuvalu and the second time I asked for it at check in and they had no problem. I was on the first floor in feb and the 2nd in may. The first floor is nice because when you open the door you are only 10 feet from the water. I am going to try to get on the 3rd floor during new years. I called a couple weeks ago and the front desk told me to call 24 hours ahead and request a room there.

When it comes to faxing the Polynesian staff will tell you this is the least affective way to get them your request. Most faxed requests get lost in all the junk faxes that come in. You can call the resort 10 days before you check in. This is about the time they will assign your room. Also once you get there you can ask nicely to see on a map what is available.

I have stayed in Tuvalu on the lagoon side and the room was nice as well as the view but not the nicest of all the lagoon views and no immediate access to a beach in front of your room like Hawaii and Tahiti. Here is a page with Tuvalu photos from my visit.

http://www.tikiman2001.homestead.com/tuvalu.html

Also the lagoon view rooms are not just upper floors and the upper floor of Tuvalu is all smoking rooms if that is ok.

One thing I did not like about Tuvalu was walking around the marina every time I wanted to go to the pool or to the boat launch to the MK. I much rather walk down the beach from Tahiti to the pool and launch but Tuvalu is closer to the GCH. Tahiti does have slightly larger rooms and balconies on both floors.

We stayed in Tuvalu in August, 2003. Here's a picture looking out our back door. When we made the reservations with WDW Travel, our only request was a "good view of the castle". I didn't ask for a specific longhouse, nor did I fax any requests.

Tuvalu Advantages
Great view of lagoon, MK fireworks, Electric Water Parade
Short walk to Luau show
Quiet (not a lot of people passing through).

Tuvalu Disadvantages
Long walk to arcade, Neverland Club, parking, TTC.

If you're comparing Tuvalu to Tahiti from a walking time/distance perspective, you would need to look at what activities you plan on doing. If most of them involve the GCH, Tuvalu is probably the better choice. Either way, you can't go wrong (we loved the Polynesian). Have fun!
