Anyone been recently to see the progress? Just wondering if they're gonna make the Thanksgiving goal for captain cooks and such.

We talked with a CM just a couple days ago regarding the re-opening of Capt Cook's, and they said it is scheduled to open in mid-December. We had the opportunity to switch our reservation from WL to Poly at very little extra cost, but did not because of there being no food court and refill mug service at the time we will be there (October).

But, maybe they'll have it done by Thanksgiving... you think they'd want it done by the time the holidays roll around.

We just returned from 8 days at the Poly. The Tokelau building was completely closed and being worked on. We had a room at Raratonga (new room) which was beautiful. The relocated Captain Cook's was fine. The food was good and we did not even miss the refillable mug situation. There was a great variety of bottled drinks to choose from. Check out http://www.tikiman2001.homestead.com/ this website. Great info updated frequently.

Tahiti closed last week as expected.

If Captain Cook's opens in november it will be a soft opening. Full opening is not expected until early December.

Aotearoa and Rarotonga are going to close for a short period for some work to be done on the monorail track and Tokelau is still closed.

Fiji, Hawaii, Niue, Rapa Nui and Tuvalu all still have some additional things that have to be done to the rooms.

I update all the details when I get the information from the Polynesian on this page.

Thanks Steve! We made reservations for the magic kingdom view requesting tahiti without really paying attention to the rehab schedule. Now that we've done so I've just been hoping that schedules are met and everything is in tip top shape when we arrive in December.

I'm aware of your site and very much appreciate all of the work that you have and continue to put into it. Polynesian is my favorite resort and its great that it has an online home with real updates and history. Lately my computer has not liked to load your page, and sometimes has even froze up completely. I'm not sure what the problem is.

Anyway, thanks again for the info.

Well as of last week they are hoping Tahiti will be back open on the 11th or 12th of November so you should be ok.

Does the web page lock up only on the main index page? I get that on my computer at work because of the Flash stuff on the main page and my Flash has not been updated. Our system at work does not let us load programs so I can’t update it. When it locks up it usually comes back in a few seconds but I have not seen it do this on the other pages.

Anyway, have a great visit in December. We are trying a December trip for the first time. We usually go in the summer.

I noticed the date on Captain Cook's was now November. Just got my All Ears Net newsletter and Magically Speaking newsletter and they both have September 15 as the opening date. Curious which it is since I really hope it is Sept since we are going in late Oct and would love to see it.

I don’t know where the September date came from but early on they were hoping for August 15 to reopen. That has since changed. I get emails from the Polynesian staff when they get updates from management and the last thing they said was that Captain Cook’s might have a soft opening just before Thanksgiving but they don’t expect a full opening until some time in December.

I take that back. It was originally going to reopen in mid September (I had to look at my old updates) but around the end of June was when I first reported hearing it might be December and recently managment said December was the target for reopening fully. I think it will be lucky if it reopens in November.

I requested a room in Tokelau for the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4. Will it even be open by then? The CM I talked to made no mention of room rehabs. I knew about them, but I though they were pretty much finished. Should I be worried?

P.S. Love your site, Steve.

The plan is for Tokelau to be back open in mid October so you should be ok. If you called the Polynesian resort phone number or CRO to ask about the rooms they don’t usually have that information since that number goes to a central call center and not to the actual resort. Most CMs outside the Polynesian do not know of the rehab schedule.

The good news is that there are no rooms still open that do not have the new room design so you will have a new room. Lets hope you get into Tokelau.

hey tikiman, any news on rooms needing the other items? Btw I chatted with you in January on the site about my trip in february this year and I had a great time. We had a room in Aotearoa with the other items and they really 'made' the room. We had some friends in another long house with the other headboards and it just looked odd. Surely all the rooms will have all the items, by the end of july 2007 cos thats when my next trip is? You mentioned about the new check-in and new stuff going into the lobby, do you think that will be done also by next july? Thanks for the help. (love your site btw)

They have been adding the missed items or “go backs” as they call them to the rooms a few at a time. They said about 15 rooms at a time. I have not been getting a report on what rooms are done that still needed the items other than in Hawaii. Hawaii they finished the 2nd and 3rd floor and added a few extras for only the concierge rooms like different lighting and DVD players. Last report from a guest said Fiji rooms did not have the “go backs” done and most of Rapa Nui needs the “go backs” and the new sliding glass doors. Longhouses that were complete are Aotearoa, Rarotonga, Samoa and Tahiti and Tokelau will be complete when they open. The old headboards did look strange and the new lights built into the new headboards have dimmers.

The new furniture for the lobby is supposed to be soon and they are going to redo the check in desk but they are not exactly sure when. They will try this year but if not the beginning of next year. February is a big time for them to do maintenance so maybe then but now I am guessing. I expect most things to be done this year and anything else to be done early next year. I would think everything will be done (that is planed) by Summer next year. I hope so also because we will be there July 2007.

Aloha
