Hi everyone!
So I am planning a trip for my family of 2 kids (both are almost 13) and 2 adults in either spring or early fall of 2022. I have been to the Port Orleans resort a very long time ago and I remember it being good just the transportation and food lacked, so this trip I would like to do etheir the wilderness or poly resort but the pricing is holding me back. We would likely be spending 8 days and 9 nights at Disney with a park hopper pass and having 3 days at MK and 2 at Epcot and then 1 and 1 at Animal kingdom and Hollywood. I really love the food at the poly resort but with it being $200 more/night compared to the wilderness lodge where I don't like the food is it worth it? I could do a spilt stay at 3 days at poly and 4 at the wilderness lodge. Any suggestions? Also is that enough time for everything?

Used to stay at Poly all the time. Way too $$$ now. It is a dream resort though, a vacation within a vacation. When we were young and on a budget we did Port Orleans many times, a good basic resort, pools were fun, it just adds on more travel time. As of late we stay at Wilderness and love it, a bit cheaper, still close to the “action” and the food, pool and service are excellent. We also love the Yacht Club (maybe as much as Poly) but that’s getting up there too!

i like the WL especially as youre going to be in MK for a bunch of days. easy to come back and forth via the boat. Food there is good and has some good themed rooms. Not sure if they have the bunk beds there any more but having the 2 kids they each get their own bed. At that time the F&W will be going on and you could always split your stay and go to the Swan/Dolphin. After the WL it will be a different vibe but cheaper and lots of food, plus you can walk to Epcot and HS or take the boat right in the back. YC is my favorite but too expensive lately. Bus from S/D takes you right to AK.

With 5 of your 7 days being MK and EPCOT, I recommend the Poly. You can take the monorail to both and it will save you from having to take a bus. We are staying at Bay Lake for that reason in 3 weeks for 6 nights / 7 days.

If you can handle the $$$, Poly is definitely the way to go.
Personally, I prefer the Wilderness Lodge and still consider it the best-themed resort on campus. But it is not a monorail resort and therefore is at least a half-step down from Poly, Grand, and Contemp.

We typically stay at POFQ, but if I had a chance to stay at the Poly I would definitely stay there for a multitude of reasons. On another note, when we stayed at POFQ, we found the food choices much better than in previous trips. You may want to check the menu for the food courts. Plus at either POFQ/POR, the boat ride to Disney Springs gives you multiple dining choices.

I stay at Polynesian and WL often. In fact they are two of my favorite resorts. I do give an edge to Polynesian for the location. The ease of getting to and from MK as well as Epcot cannot be beat. I decided to Uber to Epcot more than once due to long bus lines at WL last year. The pool at WL is very small feeling even compared to Polynesian. The quiet pool at WL is nice but so is the Oasis pool. The walkability to GF and even MK along with the TTC being right there is great. I *love* WL though but I do give a big edge to Polynesian.

Personally I'd split the stay and see which you like. I might start at WL first though.

If its within your budget, I would do the Poly for this type of stay, and that's just because you plan on doing 5 of your days at monorail access parks (including park hopping).

When my wife and I did park hopping trips, we didn't typically spend the money on higher cost resorts, (we're DVC now, so we stay at the same place) so for us, we would stay at PO:R in this case because we would be out most days from early morning, to late at night.

Do you plan on eating a lot in your resort? If so, the food at the poly and the convenience of it to parks might be enough to tip the scales.

8 park days can be enough if you plan well and get to the parks early to start your days. Focus on the primary things you want to accomplish and head for the most popular attraction you want to do as soon as you start. We always plan on multiple days at MK and EP. DHS is possibkly a 2 day park depending on what you want to do there. AK could be a 1 day if its not a priority for you. Uni can all be done in 1 day. Get the express pass to help you. The HP attractions and VelociCoaster will have the longest waits.

Thanks everyone!

I think I am going to do a spilt stay (If it isn't too pricey) between the WL and poly, is 8 park days (and 1 universal day) and 10 nights enough?
In my opinion, no amount of time is enough! My upcoming trip to WDW is only 5 days in the parks so your trip sounds better than mine! LOL.

Split stay for sure; 1 day at Poly & 6 days at WL. ;)
I get that the monorail is very convenient for the Poly resort, and if you said you had very small children who needed daily naps, then even I would have to concede that Poly would be the better choice here. But as you don't, take a good look at both resorts and decide which vibe you would enjoy more and stay there. Or if you're a family who likes to pop back to the resort a few times during your day, then Poly would be better for your days at Epcot. I believe that the theming at the WL is better and with the price difference, that would be my vote for sure. If you're a get out and stay out at the parks until they close, then the transportation becomes less important, IMHO. But then I am somewhat biased...

I really love both of the theming at both resorts, but I do like how the WL is much more compact so its easier to move around. We would likely be doing park open to park close and maybe have 1 day without parks to just do Disney springs or to explore the other resorts. Is the transportation to and from WL to the other parks bad? Also can you take the boat to MK and then hop onto the Epcot monorail?

Boat or bus to MK - we almost always do the boat.
Yes, you can go to MK and grab the monorail to TTC then transfer to Epcot line.
I believe they run buses to TTL from WL as well. (been awhile since we've been there - got to nail this down for us too! - lol)
Bus to all other resorts

Buses do not run to the TTC from WL and haven’t for years.

Just how long has it been since your last visit? 😉

My pick would be the Poly if you can swing the $$$. Split stay might be okay but I hate packing and unpacking. I would stay more nights at Poly than WL.

I have stayed at all of the resorts you mentioned and Poly is by far the best vacation I have ever had at Disney.

My last trip (just this past February) was at the Yacht Club but I said if I couldn't stay at the Poly I would not go back to Disney. It really makes the trip!!

I only stay at the deluxe resorts, but I also never stay over 4-5 nights because of that. I think that’s a factor and if an 8 night stay is the goal I would suggest a split stay with a moderate for 3 nights doing longer park days and maybe ones like AK or HS that are further from the MK resorts and then end with the Poly for the balance and enjoy the amenities and half days at MK or Epcot from monorails.
