My dad wants to go to Disney this June and we are having trouble deciding between the Polynesian and Grand Floridian, so I was kinda hoping that you guys could help.

GF is Great, but I Can't Compare it to Poly

Deadli and I have been to the GF twice and both times, it was awesome. The first time was for our honeymoon and the second time was for our second anniversary. The place is beautiful and the staff (including the concierge staff) was incredible (even compared to other WDW staff, which is almost all great).

Now, I can't compare the GF to the Poly as we've never stayed there. The Poly looks really nice, but it still has the cheesy "straight out of the 70s" feel to me. But that could just be me. I love going by the Poly at night as the lighting is really nice.

All and all, if I was given the chance to stay at the Poly, I would, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the GF.

Just my 1/2 cent.

GF is great, especially bldg. 7,8 or 9 for castle views (watch the trees in front of Bldg. 8 though). The atmosphere is great too. The Poly is older but has bigger rooms. We love the GF. Good luck!!!

We've stayed at both. Personally I liked the Poly better. The GF was a little too stuffy for us. Have fun wherever you end up. We leave in 4 DAYS YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Wilderness Lodge here we come!

This is a no brainer! The GF is the only choice. I have stayed there twice and have never been disappointed. The staff is very attentive ( I think even more so that other resorts). Even the housekeeping staff is wonderful. The lobby is just short of amazing. The rooms and the grounds are beautiful. Oh, and the smell of the lobby... how I miss that smell. Some people have the misconception that it is a "stuffy"place, they couldn't be more wrong. The staff really makes you feel like home. Hope you have a wonderful vacation where ever you choose to stay.:)

It really depends on what you are looking for. The GF is very fancy and the theme might not allow you to have as much fun as the other resorts. But it will allow you to feel very high class for the week. The polynesian will allow you to lie back and relax in the theme. Which even you choose you can't go wrong they are both great choices. No one can really make the decision for you it all depends on your taste.

Also, if you are really stuck, but plan to be there for at least a week...you can split the hotel stays. Do half at the Polynesian, and then Half at the Grand Floridian.

...and the main building has Castle views too.

(BTW, I had read that, on average, the GF has the largest rooms of all the resorts. I guess it depends on the type of room you get. The dormers are a little smaller then the standard GF room.)

Poly

I like the Poly. It is more relaxed.

Hey, sigsegv, I am curious what you find "so '70s" about the Poly. It is older, but I don't know what you mean. Is it the stairway (maybe a little like the Bradys' stairway?), or what? Just wondered.

I think that the Contemporary has the biggest rooms on Property, but I could be wrong. The only difference between room size really is a few square feet in the Deluxe resorts.

I'd go with the Polynesian.

Like it was said earlier the GF is upclass and fancy. You feel like you are pampered and live luxourious while there.

The Polynesian is more family friendly and the new pool is great.

I think because you are fairly young, you would enjoy the Polynesian more.

Agreed, agreed, agreed.

Bigger rooms, more laid-back, volcano pool.

Aloha, Polynesian!

Heh. Yeah, the Bradys' stairway is one of the major things. The colors too. (The dark brown and the burnt orange.) I think there are just too many similar elements between the architecture of the Poly and other 70s buildings. Too many for my taste. ;)

Honestly though, I've only seen a bit of the Poly, mostly the pool and the main lobby. Well, besides what you see when you're going by it on the monorail. If it works for you, then go for it. I'm sure it's very relaxing. I, personally, prefer the architecture and beauty of the GF. YMMV.
