Polynesian Luau...Yes or No?

My wife and I are somewhat interested in going to the Poynesian Luau. It always looks so entertaining. However, my mom and her cousin went to it a few years ago and came back saying it wasn't really worth the money; the food was mediocre and the entertainment less than they expected.

That is the only feedback I've ever gotten on it so I'm curious as to everyone else's thoughts.

Also, what kind of food is served? I have a fairly limited list of what I'll eat. Picky, I know.

Thanks,

I agree with your mom and her cousin. The show for me was good but too much of a fashion parade at some point of it. The food was terrible and not abundant at all. The waitresses were not nice at all either. We were a big group and we had fun regardless, but I would never pay for it again. The food is A LOT better in Ohana´s!

My 5yr and myself went to the Spirit of Aloha last month. We really enjoyed it. The food was very tasty and there was more than enough!! The desert is to die for!!!! The show starts out kinda slow, but then takes off. I would go again.....:)

I liked it ,I think the food was good and I thought the show was fine and the waitress was super nice to my small group... I noticed a lot of people were giving the servers a hassle or were upset at other people getting their food first but I mean these people only have 2 hands ,they can only bring out so much food at a time before they have to go back and get more so no need to get upset you will get served as fast a possible just wait your turn.
I was sitting next to a family who were not so nice to our waitress because they were at the end of the row and then their little girl didn't want the food _ now there is food for children if they don't like/want the luau fare but the servers wait a little after serving the food to give the kids a chance to try it .
If you know your kids won't like it ,say right away so you don't have to wait. The people beside me got upset because the server didn't bring a kids meal right away.

I say give it a try the luau can be lots of fun :)
they serve like Pineapple-Coconut Bread, salad mmmmm, pineapple ,ribs, chicken, and rice and veggies and cake n stuff for kids

If you've never been....GO!

It's that easy!

Just think of all the movies your mother doesn't like that you love....or maybe the clothing styles she likes that you don't, etc.....
It's the same with entertainment.

If it was so bad, Disney would not be able to keep it selling out every night, right??

My opinion: We went to the Luau a couple years ago and thought it was "OK". Nothing more, nothing less. But that didn't take away from the great time we had and the memorable experience it was!

In fact, I'm taking a group there agin this fall, just so they can all experience it for the first time....and I'm sure we'll have a GREAT time!

I say "GO FOR IT" and then let us all know what you thought when you get back!

:sohappy:

We've been talking it over and it seems like a lot of people (although it hasn't been directly said) would rather spend that money elsewhere. And that's the way we tend to look at things. For instance, if the food isn't that great and the entertainment is mediocre we'd rather put the money that we don't spend on the Luau to dinner where we know we like or to Cirque or something like that.

Thanks for all your input. :)

funny cuz I would never spend my money on something like cirque ... it is sad that so many people get it in their heads that the luau is so bad ... i just don't see it .I thought it was great ... but to each his own I guess

We haven't been to the Luau since our honeymoon in 1987. It was fun, but we haven't felt the need to go back in the interim. Our 5YO decided that he wanted to see a Luau show (thank you Lilo & Stitch), so we're going to check out the new show on October 15. We'll see how it goes. I've heard mixed reviews. Those who didn't like it REALLY didn't like it, and those who did like it REALLY liked it. We'll just have to wait and see.

How can there not be enough food??? It is all you can eat!!!!

As far as the old show, I have been to every kind of Luau and I would say it is not a bad version for being in Florida. The food has always been good for us and I have heard mostly good things about the new show.

If I was there I would be going to the show.

Aloha

Definitely do something different, and something you have never done before. We went to the luau last October and enjoyed it. I am not sure if we will go back this year, just because we always try something different on each trip (twice a year)! If you indulge in the alcoholic beverages, that are included in the price, they are kind of stingy. Of course they would rather serve you tea or water than beer and wine. However, if you keep on asking for refills, they will bring it. The food was great, and plenty of it. We like Ohana better, but it is the ambience of a "luau" that makes it special.:)

Luau

:hammer: I am going to WDW and staying at the Polynesian for the 4th of July. I did reserve to eat at the Luau on the 5th, yet most people at work who have been have had nothing but negative things to say. I think no matter what people tell you, you should try things at least once.

I am just glad to see most people here think its nice and worth going to. At least once.

Thanks for the imput!:sohappy:

Yay Tikiman! I looked online for info on the poly and found your site, it's excellent! Congrats on your marriage, your story was too cute.

Anyhow, I've never been to the luau and have always wanted to go. Problem is, trying to talk people into going with me!! It sounds like alot of fun. I'd try it if you are thinking of it. How much does it cost?

I went to the luau 5 years ago and did enjoy myself. I could have done without the "fashion show" thing. I didn't go there to learn 12 uses for a sarong. But I did have a good time otherwise. Would I have paid to do it again? No - once was enough. Would I pay to do it again now that they've got a whole new show? Yes.
Do it. You'll have a good time.

kellydisney - I made reservations a loooong time ago for the luau. It was $140 for the tickets (2 adults, 3 kids), $8 tax, and $24 tip. I don't remember how the $140 broke out; I think the kids were less (they are all between 3-11).

We're really looking forward to it! :) :)

Well, the wife and i went to the Poly Luau on our hoeymoon. I thought it was OK. I would do it once, but i don't plan on going back anytime soon. My wife was not overly impressed with it. She would much rather go to Ohana's instead.
