Polynesian Honeymoon

My husband and I have are planning our honeymoon for early March. I knew he was the one for me when he not only didn't shoot down my WDW honeymoon idea but told me he wanted to go almost as much as I did!

We're staying at the Polynesian in a club room, we've got the Disney Dining Plan and a 5-day Magic Your Way package with the Park Hopper option. A lovely woman helped me plan all of our dining reservations, and we're doing Ohana on Monday, Le Celier on Tuesday, California Grill on Wednesday and the Spirit of Aloha show on Thursday.

Here's what I need: ideas!!! What tips do you have for honeymooners? The woman who helped me with dining said she'd add that we were honeymooners to our reservations, but is there any other way to get extra special treatment for this seriously exciting time in our lives?? Any advice on where we're staying or eating??

This is the first trip to WDW for both of us since our high school years (nearly 10 years ago), so neither of us knows much about what's new and exciting in the parks. What MUST we do and what can we comfortably skip? Any tips on making it as romantic as it can be?

And finally, any insider tips on calling last minute for upgrades or deals or anything? Any help is so, so, so much appreciated!

Aw, so romantic. I've told my boyfriend that I was about 6 when I decided my honeymoon would be at WDW..amazingly enough, he said that he used to say the same thing! Haha. It's good that they put it on your reservations, does the hotel know as well? I did my trip planning online, and you can add on a celebration, and honeymoon is on the list. But as long as the person who made your hotel reservation knows it is your honeymoon, you're all set.

Definitely wear the bridal Mickey and Minnie ears - they let all the cast members know it's your honeymoon, which can lead to some nice surprises. Your dining ADRs sound like great choices for romantic settings.

There is a lot that is new in the parks since you were last at Disney! If you like to read, I would definitely recommend buying the Unofficial Guide, it has tons of great info on all of the attractions. Cirque du Soleil is also pretty amazing if you're looking for something special - pricey, but everyone who sees it usually agrees that it is completely worth it.

Since you're staying at Polynesian, it can be nice and romantic to go find a spot on the beach to watch the water pageant - you can also see fireworks from the Magic Kingdom from the beach as well.

Congratulations! You will have so much fun honeymooning in Disney! I took my honeymoon there, and stayed at the Polynesian, in July of 2008.

California Grille & Ohana are two great restaurants. If you are going to Cali Grille during fireworks times, try to request a window seat. Let them know you're on your honeymoon there when you check in too, even if it's already on your reservation. On our anniversary we were very lucky and were seated at a perfect table during Wishes fireworks, and it was very romantic. They seem to be as accommodating as possible there. If you don't get a window seat, you still get a spectacular view from the observatory there. :)

I have never been to the other two places to eat, but have heard great things about both. Another thing you can do is watch the Fireworks from the Polynesian beach. My husband & I walk down the path to the beach closest to the Grand Floridian. There's one porch swing, and we sit there. It's usually not crowded at that part at all, and we think it's very romantic as well.

As far as upgrades go, you probably won't need to ask for one. If there's one available, there's a chance they may grant it to you since you're celebrating. In my experience, you are more likely to get an upgrade if you don't ask for one. We asked about it on our honeymoon, and they said there wasn't anything. We didn't ask on our anniversary, and walked into a suite at The Boardwalk instead of the studio we had booked. So you never know. It's up to the CM who checks you in, and it depends on what's available too.

In addition to wearing your mouse ears, you should ask about the free "Just Married" buttons. Wear those around too, and you never know what little extra magic might happen for you. :)

Try not to miss the four main parks since you haven't been there in a while. There's so much to do in each place. I feel that Magic Kingdom & Epcot have the most to do, so allow yourself at least a whole day at each. Give yourself some downtime to relax too - after all, it's your honeymoon! :sohappy:

Thank you guys so much for such great answers!

You made me think of another question... when I was making my ADRs, I was a little confused by the instructions she gave me. How early do we need to get there? For example, our California Grill reservation is for 8:10. Especially if we are going to ask for a window seat, what time should we get there?

Thank you!

If you are asking for a specific spot, get there about 30 minutes early. If you are not, 10-15 minutes early is plenty of time. Also, they will hold your reservations for 20 minutes after the time if you are late.

Thank you! Obviously we are hoping to get window seats at the Cali Grill, but I don't want to get my hopes all high or anything :)
