Hey folks,

Going in June and I want to surprise my husband by staying half of our trip at the Polynesian. Or at least, I DID, until I saw all the construction going on.

My husband has always wanted to stay there, and as it's a monorail resort and looks awesome, I thought it would be a great idea. He loves "themeing" and the aesthetics of the hotels, so the construction makes me nervous. We stayed at the GF on our honeymoon, and we'll never top that, so I don't want to stay there again. Contemporary - it just doesn't seem quite our style? Boardwalk would be my 2nd choice, but obviously it's not on the monorail. (AKL or WL - also not our style :))We stayed at the Beach Club and loved it, but would like to try something new.

So, between Boardwalk and the Poly (with construction), what would you pick??!! Help!!!

Boardwalk,

However If hubby really likes theming I would recommend either the Wilderness lodge or Jambo house at Animal Kingdom lodge both hotels have absolutely AWESOME details and if one likes animals there is enough to do at AKL that you never need to visit the parks. One of the activities is Night Vision at the verandah at AKL

I will be there next week so I can tell you what it is like when I come back. People's reviews are hard because their idea of construction is different from someone elses. As of now, I am hearing mixed accounts: That the beach is torn up and that the new bungalows look awful. But again, I won't know until I am there.

If we had known this construction was going to go on when we booked, we probably would have thought about a different location. We kept our ressies though because we love the Poly so much that even in construction, we couldn't think of spending it anywhere else. The way I see it, the only things really affecting anything would be captain cook's being closed and maybe the beach not looking perfect. You can still use the boats in the marina, still use the monorail, still see the fireworks from the beach, the pools are still operating, the restaurants are still there and there's also that idea that you are only there to sleep.

In the end it is your choice because the Poly IS expensive and you have to decide if the construction brings down what you are willing to pay. Or do you pay it anyway as a surprise to your husband? Though I want to say "Go Poly" part of me wants to say go somewhere else this year and save up and go again when the Poly is up at full health and surprise hubby then.

Good luck!

I want to tell you it will neon big deal, bit that's right now. Later on more of the main area is going to be under constriction, so I don't know if it's the right thing to do. I'd do some research, maybe call Poly directly, but if you decide no, go for something else. I'd recommend Yacht Club over Beach.
