My wife and I are staying at the Poly for the first time May 1- May 9. I know sometimes Disney helps with requests and sometimes does not. Is their a special longhouse or floor that anyone thinks we should request? We are just getting a standard room.

It depends on what you're looking for, but there's some good information here -- http://www.tikimanpages.com/poly/the-resort/planning/item/60-which-longhouse?

FWIW, we stayed at the Polynesian for the first time last May (in a DVC studio in Moorea), and walked around the grounds extensively. We found the resort to have such a conveniently small footprint that there really wasn't a "bad" location in our opinion.

That website never seems to work for me. I was wondering if we could still get a fireworks view if we were in a certain longhouse and on a higher floor.

The resort is beautiful and you'll likely be happy in any location. We stated in Tokelau which has now become DVC. Were I forced to make a choice today, I'd choose a lagoon view Tuvalu room these days. Still, I think any location has the isolation yet short distance to anything you'd need. Despite the short distance, it's easy to get lost lol! So much beautiful vegetation there just aren't many landmarks.

Standard rooms won’t have a view of the lagoon or the fireworks unless you booked the “lagoon view” or “theme park view” room category. However, we had a 3rd Floor standard room in Rarotonga one time and could see the top of the fireworks over the other longhouses.

If having a patio or balcony to sit on is important to you, request a first or third floor room. Second floor rooms do not have balconies.
