Policy on moving expenses

My experience on dealing with a job search for WDW is that if you don't live in Orlando, you don't get hired. The underlying factor is that a company policy exists where if WDW hires you from out of state, they have to pay for your move to Orlando. Given corporate policies and budgets, only those candidates who are "recruited" get hired under these circumstances. Does anyone have any insight in to this subject? Is this just a figment of my imagination or am I totally wrong in this insight?

I think it is fair to say that if you are out of state or "not local", you have little chance in consideration for employment. I think this applies to other companies as well. I am looking for an engineering job in central Florida, and I am willing to cover my own relocation costs. Despite noting this in cover letters, I rarely get a response. Even for jobs that I should be a soo-in for. It is furtrating to say the least.

I have been trying to get hired for a position at WDW for over 2 years now. I have been called to Orlando for an interview and have met with a lot of great people. Unfortunately, the line I usually get is that I am too experienced to be recruited for an entry level position, but not experienced enough to be recruited for a management position. However, the underlying vibe that I got from them was that I should not have a problem getting hired for a good position if I lived in Orlando. They appeared to be frustrated with the fact that they are not permitted to hire people from out of state because company policy dictated that a person hired from out of state must have their moving expenses compensated. Personally, I don't care about having my expenses reimbursed if it means that I won't get a job. I'll pay myself. Unfortunately, they basically want you to leave your current job and show up on their doorstep in hopes that they have something to offer you when you get there. Very frustrating indeed.

When I finally graduate in a year and a half, I had planned on moving right to Orlando for a job. I know I may not get to START in Disney, but I'd virtually like to end up there. This makes me wonder, though, if I should move then apply or try to hybrid the two somehow.

my suggestion for all college graduates is...

1- get some real world experience first. Don't go to Disney straight out of school. You will end up disillusioned.

2- if you MUST go to Disney first, don't settle for a full time, entry level position. You will be stuck with it, with little chance of moving up (yes yes.. Disney hires from within, but when they receive over 1000 resumés for almost every management position, you will need all the outside experience you can get!!)

MKT - what exactly do you mean by experience? Specifically. I've been working in customer service at a department store for the past few years because it's the best thing I can think of to help me have experience. I also do on-camera TV work at KLSU's Tiger TV on campus. Do you reccomend something different?

Do you think I shouldn't move to Orlando right out of college? Although I do plan to apply at Disney ultimately, I'm not gung-ho that I waltz right into Disney for a job. i honestly will take any job in Orlando I can get. But do you still think I should hold out?

Any info is appreciated!
