PO-Riverside ?

We will be staying for the first time at PO-Riverside (aka Dixie's Landing) in Feb. I think the general consensus here is that most people give it a thumb's up. Are there any downsides to the place? Would you recommend staying in the Bayou section or the Manor House? Are you ever very far from the bus transportation or other services? Thanks for any help.

You can be pretty far from the food court. I like the bayou section, personally, but it's a beautiful resort regardless. Just be prepared for a lot of walking...there are a lot of bus stops, however, and a buncha small pools in addition to the themed one--can't remember if it's Dixie or Caribbean Beach that has seven small ones...hmmm...

The Bayou section is wooded, the buildings are nicer and you are far more secluded, yet closer to the main building. I always looked at the Manor Houses as some sort of Disney apartment building. In the Bayou section, you feel like you have your own little cabin in the bayou, without the alligators and bugs (well, some alligators and bugs...).

Caribbean Beach has the small pools in each of the seven "islands", in addition to the main pool. PO Riverside has the main swimmin' hole, with water slide, located on an island in the middle of the Sassagoula river. Fun place for kids. There are also five "quiet" pools throughout the resort. Ask for building 18 in the Bayou section, you are within 2 minutes of the main building and the bus stops, and right next to the parking lot, yet secluded from everything. If you decide to stay in the Manor Houses, ask for the Parterre Place building, with a view of the river.

All in all, a great moderate resort. The only downside is that the bus transportation is slow to the parks, but that can be said about any resort. The food court has good food, and the restaurant, Boatwright's, has great breakfasts and dinners. Not a bad choice for either.

You can see a map of PO Riverside here:

Good luck, and have a great vacation!

Dixie Landings...errr, "Port Orleans-Riverside" is my favorite resort (that I actually stay at), and my most visited. I always stay in the Bayou section, and people are correct, its the most secluded, yet closest to the main building. The food court is fantastic, and I feel, the best on the entire property. There is plenty of recreation... you have the big pool, good-sized game room, boat & bicycle rentals, and fishing. Plus, Downtown Disney is just a boat ride away.

I really can't think of any downsides to this resort. The bus service is excellent (no real waits or problems), the location is very central.... its about the same time to get to any given park. Also, one thing... if you have 5 people in your party, definitely stay at the Bayou section, there is a little roll-away bed which accomodates the 5th person. The mansion are only for 4 people.

Hope this helps and have a great trip... be sure to let us know how your trip was!!

We have stayed at Dixie a number of times and always had good luck in getting well located room. We stayed 1 time at the manor and 2 in Bayou. (I do perfer Bayou myself now.)

I recomend checking in early in the day if you can. We always get there before noon and our room is always ready. Later in the day the closer rooms fill up fast.

The food court is the best around, most selection, good theme, lots of places to sit and not over priced.

We prefer the mansions!! I didnt like the Bayou at all!! It is too dark!! And you may want to call I was told that only the Bayou is open in Feb and I do not think the boats are running and the entertainment is gone!! We loved Riverside/Dixie but do not think I would stay there now untill they open the whole hotel again.

Ask to stay at Number 16 Alligator Bayou, there is a little pool outside your door, a laundry room, snack machine and your only a two minute stroll to the main building. I hope the entertainment is back on as the Guy in the Piano bar is something else.
