I stayed in the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal this past Memorial Day weekend. Everyone in the hotel is given a personalized room key so that we could use it as an express pass. Out of curiosity, I would like to know if Disney does the same thing.:hammer:

No, Disney doesn't. Your park pass can be embedded in your room key, but Universal does that to get you to stay at their hotel.

Well let me tell you, it's working...lol. That would be a cool idea if Disney did do this:hammer:

Disney doesn't need to do it, that's the whole point. Universal needs to find a way to lure people away from Disney to stay at their hotels so they came up with this. It's a good idea. They even came up with a provision to keep people from only staying at their hotels one night just to get to the front of every line. To get the Express pass, you have to stay on Universal property for at least three nights. They'll never be able to seriously compete with Disney though.

Yes, but it would be hard for Disney to do. Universal has so little on-site hotels compared to Disney. If Disney did this, the FP lines would be so far backed up you would not be able to see strait. Disney has over 18 hotels where Universal has only 3. See the Difference? It works for Universal because they are so small. Disney is far to large to offer this, and it would be sucide for them to do this. The FP lines would be far to long.

No you don't. I stayed there only on Sunday night and I used my room key as an express pass.:hammer:

Disney could offer a different version of that though if they wanted. You could have the ability to get maybe 3 fastpasses at once or whatever. They can program your ticket key to do that. Disneyland used to have it where if you got your vacation package through Disney Travel Co and stayed at the Disney hotels then you got an Ultimate Fastpass where you could get as many fastpasses as you wanted, but were limited to one for each ride at a time. I think you still get that if you have a AAA package at Disneyland. WDW doesn't need to offer things like that though to compete with Universal, but it sure would be a nice perk.

this is probably in the wrong thread but since we are talking about Universal. has anyone seen their comercials lately with the large black woman swinging her around in the parade or the one where she hides her kids heads in her . And the couple making out on the beach. My dad called and told Universal that those comercials are discusting and unappealling and the guy he talked to got rude and said well turn the channel. they say if you are sick of fairy tales and pixie dust then to come there. well someone needs to call and book a reservation for a LARGE group of people and then bring up the commercial. If they tell you to change the channel say thats ok cancel the reservation, we're going to disney. anybody with me here or am I digging myself into a hole I can't get out of?

The room key fast pass gets me to stay at Universal! I'll stay there and drive down to WDW for the day.

It's nice to be able to go on a weekend or a holiday and be able to walk onto a ride.

How often can you do that at the Mouse's house?

I'm not knocking WDW, I use their fast pass all the time. I know that they can't give out more than 25,000 rooms worth of fast passes as mentioned in above post, but Universal can and they do!

I'm a fan of both parks... I just like the front of the line access at Universal!

I agree about those commercials. Good grief. I got mad the first time I heard the "pixie dust not your thing" line, but then realized Disney would never have to stoop to that level to get people to come visit. The room key thing is great..I guess, but Disney could never do it...too many hotels...too many guests. It would never work. Just visit in off season time if you don't want to fight the lines. :animwink:

Actually, in that commercial, the couple making out on the beach was to recreate that infamous scene of the same nature in the movie "From Here to Eternity". They then had the kid's ice cream cone fall on the guy's back to show it wasn't a movie...t hey were at Universal. Considering they're promoting a theme park that's movie based, I thought it was pretty clever and funny.

But the scene where the one lady's bazoobas are swinging like there's no tomorrow while riding on the back of Captain Marvel's (or is that Captain America? I get those 2 mixed up) scooter. That's just wrong! Good lawd... wear a bra, lady!

I am not a fan of US or IOA, however, let me get this straight. If you stay at one of their resorts, you can just zoom right into FP rides, without waiting in line. Or better yet, have to come back at a certain time? Is that how it works?

If not, is it that much of a big to deal to use your room key over your park ticket to get a FP? And anyways, who came up with the idea first anyhow!?

Express

when we were waiting at the Spiderman exit (I left my watersprayer in the netting.. .someone pinched it...but Universal gave me another one which was nice of them), a large family of about 10-12 came up the exit ramp.

The Dad then started talking to one of the operators, and offered him $8 per person if they could skip the 45 minute queue!! Needless to say, the ride-op pocketed the money and the family got on.

I like what Universal do. However, these are all premium hotels; it’s a benefit, their competitive advantage over Disney resort guests. Disney could never do it, like mentioned above, there are too many rooms. If they did do it, it would more likely be a privilege to Concierge and or Suite guests, similar to that at DLRP.

If I had the money, I would spend a few days at Universal in their hotels, visiting their parks with the resort Express Pass, and then spend the resort of the time on Disney property visiting their parks.

disneydummy125, if you are a Florida resident, you could get great rates on any of their hotels. You just have to book in advance, especially if you plan on going on a holiday weekend. The Royal pacific was like $139 a night. You just have to look out for the specials. The hotels at Universal are all worth it, trust me.
