Please help me decide which camera?

I am currently looking at 3 different bridge camera's, (between SLR and point and shoot).

1. Olympus SP-565 UZ 10 Megapixel Digital Camera w/ 20x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom, Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization, Face Detection, and 13.5 fps High-Speed Sequential Shooting

2. Nikon P-90 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera w/ 24x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom, and 3 inch LCD Screen

3. A Canon of some sort. I don't know which.

Please guys I need your help with this. I want to move up to a D40 SLR but don't think I can justify the extra cost. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks so much

I'm not an expert on cameras like some on the boards, but my opinion is that you should spend a bit more and get an entry level SLR. The Nikon bridge camera you are looking at really is not that much less than the D 40. I just did a quick search, and some places the price difference is only about $50.

I was in a similar situation last year...trying to decide between a bridge camera and an SLR, and am so happy that I made the choice to go with an SLR. I found spending the extra money to be worth it. I bought the Nikon D60 and am very pleased with it.
