Please help-Does anyone have info on AirTran airways?

Hi Everyone! Our trip is quickly approaching and we have not gotten airline tickets. We usually fly Northwest, but with all of the mess going on, we are considering a new airline. I found AirTran has good deals and a flight time we like. I was wondering if anyone has pros/cons of the airline? We are considering driving from Michigan if we can't get a good rate, but with a 14 month old in a car for 21 hours...it may be less than desirable for him. Any help would be so much appreciated. I don't want to risk it with Northwest. Thank you so much! Have a great day and great vacations, everyone!

My mother used to fly up here from FL on AirTran and she loved it. Unfortunately they don't fly into our local airport anymore, so now she always flies SW.

Our daughter lives in Orlando, and we fly Air Tran out of Akron/Canton Ohio all the time. They do sometimes have delay issues, but you can really minimize any potential problems if you can book a direct flight, preferably early in the day. I wouldn't hesitate to book with them. In fact, wer'e probably going to do just that later today for mid December. With their fares, it sure beats driving. Have fun!

Thanks so much for the replies! It really helps to get other's experiences! I figure it is an airline, but I like to do research. I appreciate it!

Have flown them to Florida, including our last Disney trip.

Have had no problems and the rates were the best.

But be warned, airfares go up as you get closer to departure, so don't wait too long to book.

ENJOY!

Airtran doesn't give paper tickets, its all electronic.

Read your confirmation email from them, it should tell you how to print your boarding passes.

We've used Airtran a few times from PHL-MCO, no problems.

We are flying them for the first time in September. My travel agent has used them and he assured me that they are a decent lower rate airline. You do take a chance with delays and cancellations due to their limited resources. Also you don't get seat assignments until you check in unless you pay an extra $5. However, with what is going on with NW right now it seems like less of a chance of problems going with Airtran.

Good luck and please let the board know how it turned out when you get back!

We've had no troubles with AirTran. I don't enjoy the "pick your seats when you check in" game, but I have also learned to check in the MINUTE it becomes 24 hours before my flight :)

Enjoy the low rates... enjoy the writing on the packs of pretzels you get on the plane...

Flying AirTran to WDW in just 8 days,

They haven't booked with them yet, just asking for opinions.

We have flown them many times to different places in Florida and were always pleased. We were very happy when they started flying out of our local airport again.

I hear from friends who fly a lot that AirTran is HORRIBLE about changing flight times on you after you've booked the flight, and they're even worse about notifying their customers! They might not do that now, at this late date, but who knows really. Be careful!

I use them for most of my flights now because I'm so fed up with Delta. I've never had a significant delay where Airtran, not the weather, was at fault. I can't say the same for Delta.

I have flown on them a few times before. Only thing I remember is everytime we booked online we got stamped as a SSS
(not sure what it truly stands for we just called it "Super Secret Search") cause we got singled out as having to be patted down and everything.
We were almost late for our connecting flight one time because of it.
Also was kind of hard to find direct flights, but that is getting to be with every airline lately. Otherwise... the flights were ok.
I HATE flying so I try and avoid it always!

We flew AirTrann but had to watch the flight times and make some changes to get in when we wanted to.

They had XM on the flight, came around twice for beverage service, and it was kinda nice. Too bad they follow the idea of "clean up after yourself" because they don't service the cabin, so you're at the mercy of the passengers before you.

Thats because they stack the flights so close together. The plane lands at the airport and is expected to be loaded and on the runway 30 minutes later. There isn't enough time to clean the plane before the next passengers start boarding. I'm not a big fan of it, but thats the only way they can offer as many flights to as many places as they do.

Apparently they have gotten better in reacent years. About 5 years ago when I was a college athlete, coach would always book them. The flights were always late or cancled w/o warning and the seats were crazy UN-comfortable. I would always get off the plane with a sore neck from the headrest.

My wife and I are flying AirTran to Orlando in September, so it'll be our first experience. However, the earlier statement about fares going up as you get closer to the flight time isn't 100% true. We booked our flights a couple months ago at one price, but now they're $20 cheaper!
