Please, bring back features of the old photo viewer!

I really miss the feature of the old photo viewer to click forward/backward on the full screen photo to skip. The use of the forward/backward buttons on the mouse were even better! It is also a real bummer that when clicking through the thumbnails it loads the next page. This make using the browsers 'back' button a real pain, particularly with large galleries.

I gave the new site a go, I really did, but the photo viewer is the one place I just can't get used to, it feels like a real step backward.

Sorry to hear you don't like the new photo gallery.

The new gallery offers a number of advantages.

1. It provides each image with its own URL, allowing direct linking to an image, and Google search indexing of that image. This makes images far easier to find from the wider internet.

2. It allows our search engine on WDWMAGIC to directly index pages, allowing you to search through images directly on the WDWMAGIC search.

3. We reduce bandwidth usage and decrease page load time on news articles by having users only view images that they wish to view, rather than seeing everything on one page.

4. We are now able to offer higher resolution images on our XL versions (now 1280pixels wide, up from the old 1024pixels wide).

5. We can do cool screens like this http://www.wdwmagic.com/resorts/disneys-art-of-animation-resort/gallery.htm - where we can show every single image that we have for a resort, or restaurant, or attraction, and then you can click any image there to see a large version.

We are really proud of the new site and the image gallery system. It took a lot of work to develop, and our traffic is up since its introduction, so hopefully the majority of visitors are liking it.

I do like those new features, don't get me wrong. The only thing I would love to see is when you click on an image and get the full screen version to be able to move forward and backward in that view.

Thanks for the response!

Would love to be able to do that, but the full screen images are at least 0.6MB a piece now that they are 1280px in size. The bandwidth cost of everyone viewing the images that way it not affordable. Most sites only offer at most 640px width as their largest version, which is what we offer on the medium version. And you can run the 640px version with the backward and forward buttons. The large version is only really designed to be used for looking at something specific, not for viewing every single image that way. Which is why we do not have the forward and back on those large versions.
