Planning trip from UK

I am planning a trip for 6 from the UK for next year. I stayed in hotels last time but would like to stay in a villa this time. Looking to have a more relaxed trip with some relaxation by the pool! Sick of paying inflated travel agents prices and looking to book myself, ie villa over net and flight wherever cheapest. Can anyone who has done the same give me any tips in terms of location of villa, cheap flights, car hire etc.

As for the others, I would guess either http://www.expedia.co.uk or directly with the airlines/ car rental companies.

I have looked at expedia.
Has anyone any info on cheap flights as this is the main bit I am struggling with.

How cheap do you want them? The non-direct (ie via Dallas or such) ones seem to shave a bit off

£439 return stopping in Charlotte per Adult (based on going 1st Sept - 15th Sept), for example.
