Yes
I know, I know, I haven't even written a TR from my trip THIS year...but I'm in the baby-steps of planning another DL/So Cal trip...probably in the next 2-4 years we'll be going back.

When do the overlays begin for HM & IASW? How long do they last? The girls and I are thinking we want to go to DL for the holidays/Christmastime - what's "special" about DL/DCA for the holidays?

Halloween Overlays:
Haunted Mansion Holiday - Mid September (usually 2nd Friday of September) thru Christmas season and ending early January (I think Jan 5th this year)
Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy - Mid September thru 1st Sunday after Halloween ( November 3rd this year)

Halloween also has pumpkin carving and a bunch of other fun stuff you can see in the Halloween thread.

Christmas Overlays:

Haunted Mansion Holiday: Continues from Halloween thru 1st week of January.
It's a Small World Holiday: Goes down just before Halloween and reopens mid November (usually 2nd Friday of November is offical opening.) What's interesting about IASW is that much of the time it runs through late January. A lot of attractions go down in Jaunary and so they usually keep it up until Haunted Mansion is back up.

Christmas time is great at Disneyland. Besides the overlays there is a Christmas time parade and fireworks that feature snow on Main St and other select areas. (For now these are free with the days admission unlike WDW, but that may change soon.) The Big Thunder Ranch area has Santa Claus and other various activities.

DCA decorates BVS, a Bugsland and Carsland. New this year World of Color gets a winter overlay.

We are going to have to find a way to get to DL In October and December. The more pictures I see, the more I want to go at those times!

Keep Moving Forward
You want to do Christmas Time It's is beautiful! HMH and IASWH are great. The NOS decorations are my favorite. We did the week after Thanksgiving a few years ago and it was wonderful, no crowds.
