Planning Fall Trip, first time on WDWMagic

So this is my first time building a plan on WDWMagic! With your help!

I'm a WDW veteran, former DVC member (former, :( ), and got a little bonus money and am ready for that big trip!

I've done countless 4-day-ers, by myself, young adults.

Now, I'm ready for the old time 7+ day trip, and this time we'll have a young 3-year old.

I was hoping to pick one of those down weeks in the fall, and a good monorail hotel (or at least sans long bus ride - looking at you CSR and AKL).

Suggestions?

I really want tips on a good week.

We had a great week last year at the Contemporary with our kids, a little older than yours. The walkability to MK just can't be beat (IMHO!).

We went at the end of October, weather was awesome.

Enjoy the early years when you can go in the fall before school starts up and you have to pull them out to go. (in other words, go often lol!)

Have fun planning :)

Contemporary - sounds perfect. I've stayed in GF and Poly each once, and they're great. States at BLT too a couple of times.

But, I was four decades ago when we stayed in a new garden wing at Contemporary proper. I thought the monorail going through the building was awesome. I made a little friend staying in the tower, and wondered why we too weren't staying with the cool monorail. So that settles it.

I'm going to save a little to splurge and go for a Contemporary tower room!

Little one loves trains. Ah, the joys of vicarious reliving of childhood!

Staying at a monorail resort can be an excellent option while traveling with a 3 year old if it is within your budget. Most likely you will be spending quite a bit of time at the MK and the ability to easily head back to your resort for a nap or afternoon swim could be a trip saver!

As for the week to travel, if September will work with your plans, that might be a great option. Historically, September has the lowest crowds of the year. And rumor has it there may soon be great discounts again this year also! October-December also have lower crowds than the busy summer months, with the weeks closest to holidays being the busiest.

September weather and humidity can still be as hot as the summer, so if that is a concern, you might want to try later in the fall.

Enjoy!

Kids like the Contemporary!! I don't, but lots of people do. Given my choice, I'd take Poly or GF over the Contemporary.

If it were me, I'd either go end of October or in November, avoiding Thanksgiving. September is too hot for me. Orlando doesn't have the huge temp difference between August and September that northern cities do. september is hot and humid. The temps begin to drop in October...and sometime during that glorious month, the humidity breaks and we can all say, "Aaahh." :). You do run the risk of cooler weather, though.

September/October has the Halloween party. November starts the Christmas party. I don't know if you plan to keep a little one up that late (I wouldn't, but some people do), but if you have a preference, you can think about that. :)

The best time to go is the first or second week in December.

The weather is good, the crowds are low and the Christmas decorations are up.

When my son was young, that is when we would go.

The Polynesian is awesome; very family friendly, great theming, great restaurants and great pool.

Early-mid October is nice: mild weather and lower crowds. We visited from October 8-13, 2012 and had spectacular weather (unseasonably warm, no rain) and very manageable crowd levels. ALso, the Epcot Food & Wine Festival was going on. The "downside" was we had to plan our MK days a little more carefully, as it was closing early every 2-3 days for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Of course, September is even better -- since your little one isn't in school yet, that would be even better for you.
