Planning a trip in May

Hi all, I am working on planning a trip for myself, my 9 year old daughter and my (almost) 50 yr old mom. I have only been to WDW once and I don't remember it so I'm really psyched for this trip!! I've checked out a few books from the library and have looked at a few sites (including the official one).

Right now the only thing I'm stressing about (freaking out about is a better way to say it) is getting a room reserved and the "right" tickets. We are driving down from IL and (I think) arriving in FL on Sunday.

I'm trying to convince my mom to stay at Port Orleans Riverside (trying to learn the lingo here, yall call it POR right?) but cost wise we might have to stay at an All-Star resort. But I realllly want to try to get to POR so I'm trying to find a discount. My mom thinks she can find a good deal on tickets through different people she knows but......probably won't happen.

Here's one question thats popped up that may sound stupid. Okay say we arrive in WDW resort on Sunday and check in..but don't go to AK, Epcot, etc til Monday...if we have 5 day tickets the tickets start when we first go to a park right? Not when we check in? Or am I wrong??

Thanks and I look forward to reading as much as I can until I go!!

If you make your res for a moderate resort and use the discount code "BBY" or "ONZ" you can get a standard room for only $94/nt.

Also, if you go to maple leaf tickets you can get your passes at about 20% off.

Even if you already have your res, they can apply the discount and save you the cash.

Ok, here's a stupid question...I've been to WDW over a dozen times since 1993 and I've been brousing the discussion forums on this site for a little while, now. What is the deal with the discount codes I see mentioned in some threads. How do they work and how/when do you use them. I always book the parks and resorts direct through Disney.

Thanks.

I know from personal experience that some codes are for Annual Passholders, some for residents, and some are for special deals, like thru the Disney Visa (I've used two of the three). You have to check the requirements for the codes, because some, like the AP codes, require you to present your AP at check-in. No AP = regular room rate, and possibly cancellation of your reservation.

A 5 day pass will get you into the parks on 5 days - if you arrive on Sunday and "pop" into a park for a couple of hours then thats 1 day used up. Don't forget that on each day you can hop between parks and still only use 1 day from your pass.
POR or All Stars - doesn't really matter - if you're going to the parks each day then your resort is just somewhere to sleep and leave the rest of your luggage in. You won't see much of the resort while you're asleep
Finally. get in touch with Kingdom Konsultant (a frequent poster and ticket / package guru) for all your ticket prices.

just make sure your passes are park hoppers, or park hopper plus. (if you get them from Disney store or other places like AAA they will be.) There is lengh of stay tickets that start the day you check in and end the day you check out. (I think they call them UPH now, but I never use them.)

You can save a lot of money by taking a day off and doing a water park that day or DTD or even just hanging out at the resort.

I vote ofr POR, it is my fav mod resort. We have stayed there many times when it was Dixie Landings. It is really beautiful and romantic, but still family friendly and fun. The pool is great too. I have never stayed at any all stars or PC, but hear kids really like them and they are a great deal for the money.

I hear May is a great time to visit WDW, warm and sunny, but not too crowded yet. We will we in Vero Beach Fla the 1st week of May, but are not planning on hitting the parks any. (we had an annual pass last year and went for a total of 24 days.)

Good luck, have fun. People here are full of answers (or something) if you have any other questions.

Thank you, your words have made me feel a bit more at ease. I hope that we end up staying at POR (I pretty much plan on paying for it so we can LOL) and I"m praying for no rain (for at least the majority of the trip). Oh and not to get sick. The last three times I went to FL (all before the age of 10) I got really sick, in the hospital 2 out of three times. I'm sooo looking forward to it though that nothing can ruin this! Anywho..ramblin!

Thanks again ..and have fun at Vero Beach!
