I just saw a preview for this movie a few days ago. Is my region just slow to hear about this or is Disney just not promoting it?

I saw a preview at Malificent. My first thought was that this was very odd for a direct to video movie being promoted at at theater. Was astonished that it's being released in theaters.

We just saw a commercial on TV this week and I had to check online to verify it was opening in theaters since I haven't heard of it before. Opens 7/18 in 3D.

If one were to watch Disney Jr and DISw and DISe all the time. You know, Jake, Sheriff Callie, Sophia, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, etc.. it is being advertised A LOT and has been for the last month or so I guess.

My 3 1/2 year old has expressed interest in seeing it. It may possibly be his first theater movie experience.

Did he like the first one? I thought my 3 yo DS would LOVE Planes - he loves Cars and he love airplanes but didn't even make it to the half way point of the first movie.

The first one was supposed to go direct to video but they changed their minds for some reason. I saw the preview for this and it looks very average. Seems like nothing but a cynical cash grab by the company, sorry to say.

They announced the sequel very shortly after the original hit the theaters. Planes was made on a slim budget and releasing it in theaters was an experiment that ended up doing a surprising amount of business. The division that produced it is also responsible for television animation. It's not the first time for this kind of thing. "A Goofy Movie" and the "Duck Tails" theatrical release did it the same way, along with a few others. The biggest risk with Planes was the worry about people confusing it with the Pixar brand, and it cheapening their image.

Disney doesn't have to do 500 million in Box Office to be in the black with Planes. 100 will do very nicely.
