Sony to buy Pixar?

CBS Marketwatch reports that Pixar's shares jumped this morning on rumor of a Sony buyout. Apparently, the consumer electronic giant wants to offer $75 a share for the house of Nemo.
Pixar is currently trading at about $70. Analysts aren't giving the idea much credence. Pixar Chairman and Chief Executive Steve Jobs controls 60 percent of the company's floating shares, meaning he would want to give up control of the entity he's nurtured. "My opinion is that even if Sony offered $100 a share, Steve Jobs would reject the bid," said David Miller of Sanders Morris Harris. "He's essentially the board."
"I would find a Sony acquisition of Pixar to be highly unlikely," said Steve Lidberg of Pacific Crest Securities.

MGM Courts Pixar
Animated World Network reports that MGM Vice Chairman and COO Chris McGurk has been in talks with Pixar Animation Studios about a distribution partnership. McGurk is quoted saying that MGM would be "the best fit" for Pixar because of its worldwide distribution apparatus and because MGM doesn't possess any competitive animated films or family franchises. McGurk added MGM intends "to speak with [Pixar] again very soon."

My Question is if PIXAR signs a new agreement or gets bought out who controls the movies they already made? Could sony or MGM use the character from the previous movies?

Even more interesting would be, if the MGM/Pixar deal goes through, and Disney ends up buying MGM. Though unlikely...its an interesting possibility...

That's brilliant! I wish I had thought of it.

That would be amazingly ironic! Pixar leaves Disney only to get eventually bought out by Disney!

I know Disney doesn't own MGM studios, but don't they own at least part of MGM?

Pixar wouldn't be bought out by Disney if Disney bought MGM. The MGM/Pixar deal would be for distribution, just like the soon to be former Disney/Pixar deal. If the MGM/Pixar deal went through then Disney bought MGM it just means that Pixar would basically be back with Disney for distribution, in a round about way.
