We just booked a two night stay at a Hampton Inn near PNC Park over Labor Day weekend. Also bought a couple of tickets for a Pirate Game. We have never been to Pittsburgh, so we decided to make the five hour drive west to check it out. To those of you that know the area, what would you suggest we do with our free day. Restaurants, things to see etc. Thanks much. Also is Primantis as good as some say?

We live about an hour away from Pitt. in eastern Ohio. Primanti Bros. is great! The strip district is neat. There are all kinds of museums! Kennywood Park is an old amusement park that has Dole pineapple soft serve! The inclines are fun to ride. There is also a little mall right next to the Gateway Clipper but, I can't remember the name of it. (Maybe a Pittsburgher will know what I'm talking about & let you know!) Anyway, that's about all that I can come up with!

As a Pittsburgh native, I would say you're on the right track! Kennywood is a fun little park with a few really stellar rides. Station Square is the shopping area near the Gateway Clipper dock, but there's not much there if you have kids. The Heinz History Center and Sports Museum is well worth your time. The Strip District is a fun place to shop. Make sure you make it to the top of Mt. Washington to get pictures of the classic view of the city, and if you have time walk around Point Park since the fountain will likely be at its highest point with it being a holiday weekend.

I 2nd and 3rd all of this - The Strip District is fantastic during the day - just went there on Saturday and had alcoholic root beer at the BeerHive = excellent! But there are so many great places to eat on the Strip - between our group of 7 we split - pierogies, sushi, tacos, chicken & rice and baklava! Lots of great food!

You can actually get Primantis sandwiches at PNC park! Quaker Steak wings are good and also at PNC park! I'd go early and grab some not so standard ball park food.

Kennywood is a nice theme park. You can go later at night (5pm - close) for a cheaper price. Some great wooden coasters and it's really beautiful at night. Certainly that "old time" amusement park feel.

A few restaurant recommendations...

In Lawrenceville - Piccolo Forno has the best pizza I've ever had. (better than Via Napoli IMO:rolleyes:) It's also BYOB.

In Fox Chapel (Waterworks) - Burgatory. Fantastic make your own burgers and really yummy shakes. You can add booze to the shakes too!
(There is also one out by the Robinson Mall)

AND of course - the only Disney Store in the area is at South Hills Village Mall!

:) Hope you have fun! And let's go BUCS!

You will love Pittsburgh! I suggest eating at Hyde Park. It is near PNC park and is delicious. And also, maybe try Capital Grille. You will not be disappointed.

Again I must say awesome stuff from my Disney friends. The strip district sounds like a must do. We are staying at a Hampton Inn on Smallman Street and probably walking to the game across the Roberto Clemente Bridge. Third Eye Blind is playing after game. Is it okay to walk back to hotel this late? Pitt seems like a really safe place, but you never know. I live in Scranton and wouldn't walk some places at night. Also the distance from hotel to strip district is pretty short, should I walk or drive this? If it is an easy, safe walk I would rather walk than worry about parking.

YOU LIVE IN SCRANTON, PA? what a small world - I used to live in Pittsburgh but my fiance got a residency spot at Geisinger so we just moved to Wilkes Barre (Pittston to be exact)

It really is a small world after all. Haha
