Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted here, but I noticed the original Pirates of the Caribbean ride at DL didn't have its own proper thread, so I decided to make one for it.

Now, I've never been on this version of the ride, only the one in Florida in which I've heard is the worst version of the ride. I first rode it with all the film inclusions, so I got used to it, but after seeing a video of how the DL version looked like when it was new in the 60s, I gotta say... the film characters put in the ride really took a lot of the character and charm away. The original version heavily reminds me of our (UK) Version of the ride, Pirate Adventure, which I still miss dearly to this day as it shut in 2015.

Back with POTC, do you think after 20 years since the Curse of the Black was released into the cinema, will those films are still relevant in pop culture media as they used to? I grew up watching those films and adore them, but personally I think it's time to restore the ride back to how it was before the 2006 refurbishment. The characters feel forced in personally and really stick out like a sore thumb from a design perspective. As the original figures have very overly expressive faces while Jack Sparrow and Barbossa have a very realistic look to them which don't really fit in with the ride personally. I just don't feel like those characters are relevant as they once were and are slowly dragging the ride down with them.

I'd love to see the Galleon battle scene restored! The absence of the film music really does make it feel more chaotic, and the original captain looked cool too!

If anyone is interested, someone found the source audio of the original 1967 version if anyone is interested. So if you want to mix it all together for stuff like Planet Coaster, here you go!

I also love the short interlude between the drops, the only place where we hear “the studio recording version” of Yo Ho in the ride (no donkeys, no singers acting drunk, just pure unadulterated singing) I view it as the overture to the ride and just makes me incredibly happy. Often the entire boat will join in singing along to the chorus and I love that.
