I want to go to DL this summer and I have been doing some research. I noticed that POTC is not located in adventure land but in N.O. square. This seems a very odd place to put POTC. What does N.O. have to do with pirates or the carribean? And why not just have it in adventure land?

The ride starts in Louisiana near New Orleans at Lafitte's Landing.

The ride begins amid glimmering fireflies during an evening abuzz with the croaking of a bullfrog in a quaint Louisiana Bayou. Daring adventurers board their boats at Laffite's Landing, and are at once afloat in the heart of bayou country. On one side is an actual working restaurant, The Blue Bayou, made to look like the backyard dinner party of a southern plantation.

The explanation is posted above but also I wanted to mention that it is located at the end of Adventure Land where it blends into New Orleans Square.

The Blue Bayou is the best themed Disney restaurant ever!!! It shares a kitchen with Club 33.

Yeah, when you come out of Adventureland just be sure to take the lower path and not the bridge. You'll discover yourself standing on top of the POTC entrance as we did, heh.

I also second the Blue Bayou comment. The Monte Cristo.... sooooooo good. The gumbo was really tasty too. Lunch at Blue Bayou was probably our best meal during our trip earlier this month.

Yeah the Monte Gristo is good and Cafe Orleans also has it and sometimes is easier to get into and has a great outdoor seating.

New Orleans Square is one of my favorite places in any Disney park. I had never been there till this summer but it really was cool! And if you can get an ADR at the Blue Bayou DO IT! I didn't know much about it and didn't get one and the days I was there they were full every day. I want to eat there so bad!

Too bad Walt Disney isn't here to explain it to you. :(

Oh, wait, through the magic of YouTube and a 1965 episode of the Wonderful World of Color, Walt can explain his thinking behind placing New Orleans Square where it is and why Pirates of the Caribbean is where it is! :sohappy:

Enjoy hearing it directly from the genius himself.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3sAZJh5LoM

The Pirates ride at Disneyland is better and longer than at MK too. And the blue bayou (which is overlooking the beginning of the ride) is a very good restuaraunt

What do you mean by explain some things? Also did they add characters from the movies like the one in WDW?

Yeah but what I meant is at the beginning they drop you into a pretty elaborate cavern scene with gold and stuff. Where WDW they take you pretty quickly through a short version and then drop you into the fight. Also at the end the falling timbers part at disneyland it is just much longer than WDW all together.

Although New Orleans sits on the Gulf of Mexico and not the Caribbean Sea, they are neighboring areas of the Atlantic Ocean, and thus connected. In addition, there were pirates in New Orleans, notably Jean Lafitte (sp). I imagine this is how Walt Disney justified the location of Pirates at DL.

I think the DL version is superior, too. I can't wait to go back so I can plan ahead for Blue Bayou ADRs!
