Anyone read the article over on MiceAge? It's been up for awhile, but I just got around to it...

So I guess the pirates are heading over to Tom Sawyer Island after all. Just not in the form we thought. I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand it's just another way of Disney trying to shoehorn their latest cash cow into the park...but on the other hand, it's nice to see that this attraction is finally getting some long needed attention. I think it's pretty clever that they found a way to incorporate pirates without really deviating too much from the story of Tom and Huck. I'm curious to see how this evolves. What do you guys think?

It's the lamest thing I've heard in a while, especially for WDW

At least DL's TSI is right next to their POTC. You can't even see POTC from our TSI.

Looks like Screamscape is just trying to create news

Keep in mind that Screamscape is only as good as the information it is given....basically it's a cast member feeding the rumor. I asked my big sis who's in Imagineering out in Cali has mentioned that the California version is pretty much a done deal but as we all know that nothing is official until the digging starts/walls go up.

i thought this was only happening at cali - it doesn't make sense at wdw... it would need to be frontierland themed - not adventureland... ?:veryconfu

This is planned for Disneyland. Walt Disney World's island won't be changed at all. It makes more sense for Disneyland, where Tom Sawyer Island sits right off of New Orleans Square and directly in front of Pirates of the Caribbean. But then Walt Disney World never seems to update or plus up its existing old attractions, so why would they touch Tom Sawyer Island? :D

As for some of the other questions in this thread;

Samuel Clemens wrotes several chapters covering Tom and Huck and Joe Harper going off to an island in the Mississippi River in search of "pirates", and the boys created their own pirates lair and gave each other pirate names. It featured quite prominently in the book, for those of us that remember reading it in 6th grade. :lol:

Al Lutz is correct more than he is wrong. He broke the story on this Pirates Lair project several months ago, it was quoted widely in the media here in SoCal, and Disney refuses to comment on it. Since then Al Lutz has continued to expand on the news he originally reported and he is standing by the story. Disney still refuses to comment on it or acknowledge that it is happening, but it seems likely it will.

But again, for anyone who has visited Disneyland and is familiar with the geographical placement of Tom Sawyer Island and New Orleans Square, it makes a lot more sense for Disneyland. This is only a Disneyland thing.
