hello all! just wondering how the whole pin trading thing works. It seems to consume the Disney parks/downtown disney area & i'd like to participate. I have a couple of pins i bought several years ago & was wondering if i can just go up to someone and trade, or if i have to buy a certain type of pin or what.

Definitely look at the guide on the Disney Pin Trading site the PP posted. Basically, it must be an "official" Disney pin. Any pin with the pin trading logo on the back should be ok, along with older character/park pins before they put the logo on the back. I say should be ok as there are fakes floating around and some CM's may refuse to trade if its a fake. Trading with CM's is a 1 for 1 trade, and they aren't supposed to say no as long as they don't already have the pin you are offering on their lanyard. Trading with other guests is up to you, you don't need to trade with anyone, but you are more than able to, especially around the pin store at DTD.

I also have a question about Pin Trading. I am going to WDW for the first time ever in 12 days! I promised my boyfriend's son that I would bring him back a couple pins, as he has been to WDW (lucky butt 7yo) several times and collects them. I am staying at a resort he never has never stayed at and would like to get a pin from there; does each resort have their own pin? Are some pins sought after more? I would really like to get him special ones!

if you'll have something with you that can go online, I'd check the event page, on the pin link that someone posted.

They will let you know if any limited Edition or mystery pins are being released in the park that day, I had my phone on update, and when they released a Tinkerbell peek-a-boo, they told me where to look for it, and I found it. ;) I love it, and it isn't SUPER rare, but it isn't that common anymore either, since it is retired. :)
