Pin trading for kids questions

Hi,

My wife and I are putting together a package for each of our daughters to let them know we are going to WDW next month. My wife suggested some pins for them to trade at the parks. I looked on ebay and found a seller that sells varies quantity lots of Disney pins they say are all guaranteed made by Disney and can be traded in the parks. You get a random lot of pins with no dupes.

The cost for 40 pins is $29.99 plus shipping as the starting bid. Is that a good value or should I beware for some reason. It seems cheap but wanted to ask before I jumped.

Thanks for any advice!

Mike,

That's what I do every time I go to WDW. I order a lot of 30 or 40 pins on ebay for my fiancee and me, then trade them with cast members for pins I actually want. A couple of notes:

1. You probably won't get any "cool" or "gimmicky" pins in the ebay lots. They're usually cast member issues or very common pins.

2. Cast members cannot reject a trade, so you can get rid of your worst ones for the ones they're wearing.

3. ebay lots occasionally have "fake" pins, but I've never seen more than one or two in a lot of 40, and *most* cast members will trade for these pins anyways, as long as they're not REALLY terrible looking. You can only tell the fakes from the real ones (in most cases) by holding them side by side, where a slight discoloration might become apparent.

Good luck!

Thanks both!

tigsmom, I read through that link you sent and had a quick question. It says for the trading with a CM u can only trade pins with ©Disney and it can not already be on the lanyard among other rules.

For the guest to guest trading, it says only one rule: o monies are to change hands during the trad.- Guests asking for money or those accepting payment can be asked to leave the park or trading location. Beyond that - anything goes and any pin is tradable.

So for that I had a quick question. I make buttons and some of them I have made have saying and stuff that are ride related (stuff like inside jokes, etc). Does that mean my daughters can trade those to other guests if the other guest wanted to?

Thanks,
Mike

We do this every year. I get a lot of 30 or so and my kids go nuts. We've also gotten some super rare ones. One time a CM actually asked my daughter (who was 4 at the time) if she really wanted to trade becuase she had a very special pin. Melissa still wanted to trade and I thought it was fine since the kids just do it for fun and maybe a serious collector would get lucky and get the one we traded.
Some warning: the kids spotted the Vinylmation figures this year and this was there new passion. A pricey passion at 10 bucks a piece. Try and stay with the pins, lol. But most importantly, have a wonderful, magical time!

Thanks. :)

We have been down many times and never have done any pin trading. Our oldest daughter who is 9 has purchased pins in the past but never traded any. She loses most she has anyway... I purchased the expensive backs that you use an allen wrench to attach to the back of the pin and has them on her messenger bag for school but she must be very abusive with her bag as she comes home with the fronts ripped off and the pin part with the back still attached....

I have seen the vinylmation figures and they are pretty cool, I have thought of getting myself a few actually... :)

I wound up buying 2 lots of 20 from the same seller. Came to $30.87 with free shipping for the 40 pins. Hopefully my girls will like what I got them. I am hoping our 3 year old will understand the trading concept. :)
