Pin Traders Stick to Themselves
(Orlando Sentinel) -- Although Walt Disney World is trying to take the lead in the growing niche of trading its souvenir pins, the independent collectors who are their market still like to organize their own special events. A new merchandise shop specializing in the tiny metal pins -- most of them ranging in price from $5 to nearly $20 -- opened recently at Disney World's Marketplace at Downtown Disney. The store offers to be an informal meeting place for pin collectors, buyers and traders. Still, pin traders have scheduled their own non-Disney gathering at the Travelodge Maingate East, 5711 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, on Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. There's an admission price of $8, and one attraction will be guest speaker Joseph Bauer, a lecturer on theme park trends and an actor known for recreating Walt Disney on stage.
