i just wondering what everyone used to edit, i would have made a pool but there is a lot of different prgrams out there. i use paint pro 7, it's easy to use and i even even figured out how to do the castle scene from the spectreomagic pic i had and added fireworks. but i really did take that picture of the parade.

ya photoshop is 600 its not cheap. There are tons of graphic programs online freeware and shareware that could probably help you in any shape or form. PLUS you have a huge audience here willing to help if asked

LoL..600 bucks isnt bad when you put it in perspective..first off..its not like Maya or XSI where you have to pay per YEAR..its a one time deal until you have to upgrade..and the upgrades are cheap(er)...and you made a good point..since its my "career" (sorta)..its not bad..i charge 6 times that amount to do graphic design work...so its not really an issue for me...

Don't forget the learning curve... It's been my experience that in many cases, the people who claim to be good in photoshop are actually "good" in things like Eye Candy and KPT. You know? ;)

Tooo true...its a good thing that any of us in "the industry" can spot that stuff a mile away...the way I like to work is going by the "If it doesnt come standard in photoshop..dont use it" way...its more rewarding and yeilds better results. I mean..how many times have we all seen xenofex lightning or KPT sphere... *sigh*...plug-in monkeys suck

Don't get me wrong. I'm not totally against the use of 3rd party plug-ins... It all depends. I mean, I don't really use most of the filters that come with photoshop so... Some can be good time savers. The latest incarnation of Knockout for instance, is a big time saver for me. It's by no means perfect but on something complex, it cuts a lot of time off my work schedule even with the tweaking and editing I have to do once it's done it's job... The other filters like the ones I mentioned before can be fun to play with from time to time as well... I just think it all gets overused. You commented on the lens flair somewhere else. I feel the same way (only possibly more so) about the page curl on a picture . Do they not realize how tired these kinds of things are? Most of the filters that come in KPT seem pretty useless to me in a practical sense, too. I mean, they are fun to play around with but most of them seem to lack the level of control that would be needed to apply them consistently to a commercial project and with each new release they seem to be getting worse with this... Ok, I'm done ranting now. ;)

Man...i cant even begin to tell you how much crap I saw at my old job that people tried to pass off as "art". Part of what I had to do was review all incoming portfolios and demo reels that people sent in looking for work..and about 3/4ths of the ones i looked at were either::

All plugins
All Tutorials
Stolen 3D models
Or just plain BAD...

The problem is that no one teaches them that things like that are BAD. I, too, have seen that "page curl" used too many times and automatically throw out any "submission" that uses it when i review someone for a job. You cant fake talent..plain and simple..by using "excessive" plugins you are only making yourself look like a fool. I agree that SOME plug in usage is necessary to meet a deadline or to get a certain effect that would otherwise take you HOURS to do manually..but sadly many people dont see it like that.. *sigh*

Yeah..i'll end my rant here too..LoL
