Picky Eaters

My family and I will be in WDW in June! I was just wondering...at the restaurants and character meals where the menu is "buffet", like Whispering Canyon Cafe, can you order from the menu instead? My 9 year old son is so picky; he wouldn't touch what's on the buffet with a ten foot pole. Thanks in advance for your input.

There are a lot of places that only have a buffet, such as Chef Mickey's, Boma, and Crystal Palace. So make sure you don't go there. I'm not sure about the other places, sorry.

A nine year old will be eating mostly from the children's buffet anyway. Does he eat chicken fingers? hotdogs? macaroni and cheese? He'll be fine. What you can do is check out the menus ahead of time (www.allearsnet.com) and go over what is offered at each restaurant.

Last summer, we ate at the Rose and Crown for the first time. I was nervous that my family wouldn't care for the food so I sat each one down before we traveled and showed them the menu. This way, they had an idea of what they might like and I didn't have to worry about that look you get when nothing on the menu appeals to your child (or spouse).

Just so you know, the WCC is not a buffet. Its all you care to eat, but the food is served in a large cast iron skillet. You pick out what you want an they bring more of whatever it is you want...family style.
You can order from the menu, but I have found that most of the kids buffets will please even the pickiest eaters, and I have 2 of them.

One of my kids is a picky eater, and we appreciate the buffets. There's always something he'll eat. It's less risky than a regular restaurant where he could order something then not like it.

I, too, have a very picky eater. Can we say pizza or mac and cheese anyone!?

WCC has a kid's menu you can order off of besides the all you can eat skillets. Buffets like Crystal palace etc were fine because they had mac and cheese and other kid favorites. I have been told that at O'Hana in the Poly there are "other child selections available upon request". Not quite sure what that means but probably some mac and cheese etc (sensing a theme). I have also been told that even Boma has plenty of selections for picky eaters.

We went to Biergarten last year and he just basically ate dessert. But my other son loved the roasted (?) chicken.

Great suggestion to see allearsnet.com for menus.

I also make a quick list for myself of counterserve places and the child items they have.....will make it easier when deciding on a quick bite while at the parks.

We are leaving in the AM (whoohoo!) so I will post a trip report especially for picky eaters when we get back so hopefully I will have more info for you. Some of the places we have planned (and that I felt safe with my picky eater ds age 6) are: Liberty Tree Tavern, Boma, WCC, The Garden Grill, Rose and Crown, 50's Prime Time, O'Hana

i am such a picky and fussy eater that i find it hard to eat around disneyworld thats why i eat at my fave spots but what i can say is that donalds breakfastosaurus at AK is the best buffet ive ever been to -it caters for everyone it has such a wide variety of food. even though ive been to cinderellas breakfast in MK its nothing compared to AK. im MK the food is brought to you on a plate where as in AK you get up as many times as you like and choose your own food.

atmosphere at AK is the best the characters come around at least 5 times and everytime they come around they are hugging you and messing joking around its so much fun i cant wait to go back and eat at DB at AK.:)
