Photopass cd is available by mail!!!!! - verified

Disney's photopass url...

That's the url that they gave me and it's wonderful!

Kind of odd getting the phone call though... Not every day you get a call from "Disney-MGM Stud"...

This is a verified site - from a nice lady named April Bowman. She works at Photopass and said that LOTS of people are very concerned about the site, but keep in mind that it is a temporary site and that it is official.

Please read my post further down the page for more specific information!

Have fun!

What was the source of this URL? The site doesnt seem very well put together, is this a scam site?

As I said in my post, it was from a phone call from photopass. Actually "Disney-MGM Stud" as caller id said it...

That site is not a Disney site, I would be very suspicious. The page asks you to supply information that PhotoPass wouldn't need, how many pictures are on each pass ids certainly not something they would have to ask for. I suspect the site may be a scam. If they just capture the pics and save them to a disc and mail it, you'd get all your pics, but what quality they'd have is questionable. Also, the CD from the parks does include borders you've selected, etc.

I would recommend against this "service". The PhotoPass "official" site at http://www.disneyphotopass.com/ offers no such service. And Call Display can be tricked to say whatever you want it to, simple software programs do that.

Yeah there is certainly something not right about it. Its either a scam site, or a very temporary solution, which is very unlike Disney. The wording doesnt sound right, the URL is a non-Disney address, there is no SSL encryption on the form, and the questions it ask are very strange. I would suggest not using this site until it is confirmed to be official.

ok - I have an email in to photopass right now - from a lady that helped us before - and the official word is in the works...

Yes, caller id can be spoofed.

It would seem forwarding the url to Disney would be in order. The site states its not affiliated with disneyphotopass.com, yet at the bottom it has copyright Disney? Weird.

The Photopass CD is not yet available online. You can get the CDs from ToonTown (TT photos only) or Epcot (all four parks). The DVDs are, however, available at the website.

I know several people who work in this department, and they've told me that this CD site is a scam. I hope you didn't give them any information! :lookaroun

Then someone that works there is giving out people's information to this website - they are the ONLY ones that know that I am looking to buy the cd and would have access to my home phone number...

And yes, I have reported the url to photopass personnel, I'm waiting on an answer - I'll post as soon as I have one!

Another thing strikes me as being suspicious:

Although Photopass is based out of the Feature Animation building in the Studios, the Caller ID should have come up as "Disney Photo Imaging," not "Disney-MGM Stud."

....

At least, that's how it works here on property.

If they just capture the pics and save them to a disc and mail it, you'd get all your pics, but what quality they'd have is questionable. Also, the CD from the parks does include borders you've selected, etc.

Yeah, the quality is only good enough for a crystal-clear 3x5. The CD comes with two folders. One contains the original, untouched photos; the other contains the modified pictures.

Wow..that's very odd. If it was a scam, why would they exclude Texas and Florida? That's two of our biggest states. It certainly doesn't appear "above-board", but it also is strange for a scam. Could they be lifting images from Disney and making their own cd's?

Just wanted to note that I found one other instance in where Disney used a "register123" website to direct people where to buy Darth Mickey last year when they sold out at MGM. It ended up being legit. So, I guess we really need to wait until we hear from Disney about this one. Looks very suspicious to me and I definately would not give them my info yet.

Well, I know Florida has extremely tight anti-fraud laws in place due to the constant flow of out-of-state and out-of-country visitors. We used to be scam central thanks to the transient nature of the population at any given time. (Not to mention a high percentage of elderly people.) In fact, it's why so many contests are not valid in Florida. State law requires that there be a secure bond held in state equal to the amount of the prize(s) to ensure it's not fly-by-night operation.

Anway, that said, I wonder if it's not because it is a scam and a misrepresentation of services and would be subject to much higher penalities and/or be flat out illegal (as opposed to a grey area in other state law) here in Florida.

Maybe if it is legit, when it says you do not get the boarders and such, this means what you do on the Photo Pass website is not passed to the CD? Of course, this would simply be guessing. But, if you could get the images from the website, wouldn't you want the edited ones to, like you can in the parks.

Sounds like someone is taking your id number and running over to the park and making you a cd and sending it to you, but not making much of a profit.:veryconfu Of course, after getting my cd on my last trip, the photo guys were talking of how they were always trying to make a better product and this may be the 1st step in getting the CD away from the park, thus saving a line and getting a better experience getting the CD.
