Can anyone tell me if a standard room at Port Orleans Riverside is big enough for a large size dog? I have a Rottweiler who will most likely be travling with us when we take our vacation. I am looking to either do Art of Animation family suite or Port Orleans Riverside. I would like to go on the cheaper side but I feel like the room would be too small for my dog.

It is pretty much a standard hotel room. That being said, I would think it plenty big enough for 4 people and a dog.

We wont have much of a choice as we have no one to watch him while we are gone. He is well behaved and due to kids issues we would be taking breaks through out the day so as to not over whelm the kids. We would keep close to the schedule we have at home. Boarding scares the hell out of me as my family has lost a dog for a one day boarding. They place we boarded the dogs out allowed him to get loose and we could never find him.

Why did I think the only WDW resort that allows dogs now is Yacht Club? Did this change recently?

I think it should be okay if you're taking him our for frequent breaks. The rooms are pretty decent size if I recall correctly. Also, I know you said you don't like the idea of boarding but the kennel is right across from Port Orleans so if you wanted you could leave him there during the day then take him to the room at night. I would imagine the Disney kennel would be very very diligent and would look after him.

There are only 3 hotels and the cabins that allow. There is a $100 per day fee I think it was. Not sure if it is permanent or not yet but as far as I know they still have it going.

We have used the on-property kennel for 9 years with our 60 pound Shepherd/Chow mix.

We take her for “day care” only and pick her up at night so she can sleep in the room with us.

They stay open until one hour after the last park closes, and you can go visit during the day (we usually take her for a run in their dog park out back if it’s a long park day.)

It’s to the point she gets all excited when we turn onto Bonnet Creek Parkway!

Day care is something like $35 depending on the room you choose and any discounts you have (AP, etc.)

If I were in your shoes, I'd lean toward the cabins at FW. Yes, they are more expensive, but there will be more floor space for the dog (and for all of you) and plenty of room outdoors to walk him/her -- in addition to a well-equipped kitchen, bunk beds for the kiddos, etc.

The fee last I checked was $50 per day. Add in the day care, and you’re close to $100.

We are doing this in August! AP deal was better than Yacht Club and you are in a private space vs. walking the long halls to your room. Yacht Club was great, though.

Wouldn't it be significantly cheaper to board the dog at home rather than pay the Disney upcharge?

Hounds Lounge Pet Resort and Spa in Fayetteville is $40 per night. Disney will charge you $50, plus you have the hassle of a dog in your hotel room the whole trip.

It’s not always about cheaper.

I would try to find someone to keep him at home, going back to the room that much is going to eat up almost all of your park time, think about it your looking at 90 minutes travel time (to the room, back the park) everytime you go back to the room to check on him, 2 or three times you have eaten up your whole day.
