Pete's Silly Sideshow question

Just out of curiosity, what exactly was the idea behind Pete's Silly Sideshow? More to the point, why would Pete let several of Mickey's friends (and thereby Pete's enemies) perform in his show?

Just cost cutting. The whole area was going to be a Pixie Hollow meet and greet with a giant glowing tree placed their but instead decided to cheap out and reuse the tents that were already there from way back when Mickey’s Birthdayland opened in the 80s. They moved Dumbo in to the area and themed the whole area to a travelling circus. Pete is quite the showman so they made it his show, and as a way of shoe horning in more classic character references. It could have just as easily have been Mickey’s Silly Sideshow. These days Pete isn’t an outright villain, they are more frenemies now. He does have a good side. Overall it’s just a bit of fun and I wouldn’t look too much in to.

😂 Nice to know I'm not the only one bothered by that, though it's the opposite that annoys me (why are Mickey's friends putting up with Pete to perform here?). Especially since it's such a tone clash; everywhere else is a happy, sincere circus then suddenly here's Pete's poorly put together cashgrab where he yells at the characters you're here for!

Pretty much anyone else would have made more sense.

He's a scammer and flim flamer of the carnival trade..Which is why it looks sketchy when you enter the tent...

The best part is the little speaker adjacent to the tent by his enormous cutout. If you listen carefully It sounds like the rustling of the microphone on the cord just to make it authentic...

There was at one point planned to have Pete as a M&G character for it but that fell through..

I thought the reason Pixie Hollow was out was because its time had passed and also because it was too girl-heavy, like the rest of the Fantasyland plans at the time. I think to go with something like Dumbo seemed like a wiser move.

As for Pete, while he might have mellowed out in, say, "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse", he is still very much a felonious ruffian in, say, the newer Mickey cartoons of the 2010s.

Maybe, but I was wondering why he would lure almost all of Mickey's friends away. That was the point of this thread.
Best way for Donald to Describe it...

But why then would Donald fall for it as well? I'm sensing that Pete may have been trying to turn Mickey’s friends against him. Actually, that sounds like an interesting idea for a story: Pete luring Mickey’s friends away and Mickey, with Pluto in tow, trying to save them, but Pete has somehow brainwashed them.

So, basically the same way he was in Mickey the Three Musketeers..

Why not? Pete is running the sideshow with the characters performing their various talents, they are being used to draw guests in. By using them hes profiting supposedly by entrants buying tickets to enter. The cast would be working for peanuts so Pete is getting the majority of the money coming in. They are working for the sideshow desperate for any pay. Pete is still being Pete, a manipulative greedy showman.
Pete is a classic old time circus barker you would have run into in any circus that comes to town, stays until they fleece the citizens and then moves on. I'm sure hes also got pickpockets working the crowds for more profits.

But knowing Mickey’s friends, I would think they wouldn't be so willing to go along with Pete if they know who he is, which they should.

As side show performers, which they are being represented as, they have little options for work. A job with Petes sideshow is whats available for them.

It also shows that he too is part of the circus as well.

I would think, though, that Mickey would be angry at his friends for abandoning him like that.
Again, Same mentality of how the characters are portrayed in The Three Musketeers film..Mickey was too Rose Colored with a Happy go lucky positive attitude against his friends..Shown here.
