Although I agree that the lien for Pan an be way too long - I think the extended queue they put in a few years ago is great (as good as the ride itself). It's great to go through late at night (not when you are spending 60 minutes in it!).

As for the rest of the ride, I enjoy both but like flying over London and the music better in Pan.

The two are comparable only in the fact that they were cartoon characters and are connected to Disney. Oh, yea they are also dark rides, but the single difference that is the magic is that you witness Pan from above, flying magically along and Pooh is ground level. That flying part makes all the difference.

For me, once you strip away the nostalgia of Pan, I don't think it's a great attraction - E.T at USF does the same concept but better.

I enjoy the Pooh ride - particularly the Tiger 'Acid Nightmare' section.
For that matter, some of the other original rides' popularity are mostly due to their nostalgia. Dumbo and Small World are nothing spectacular without their nostalgia.

That argument would hold up if millions and millions of first-time guests didn't also enjoy them.

They're simple joys done right.
I think 'simple joys done right' is part of it. I think the other part is that nostalgia is handed down from generation to generation. The two rely on each other though. There are some things I remember from my childhood that my kids would have no part of today. Add nostalgia and 'simple joys done right' and Peter Pan stands the test of time. However, if it were built today, I wonder if it would get much traction.

That last part is part of my thought process - It's a Small World opened at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2008 and is as much a hit there as anywhere. It's likely that most of the guests who ride it there have no meaningful history with Small World, so the ride doesn't ride a wave of nostalgia over there. The same could be said for Dumbo opening at Hong Kong (2005) and Shanghai Disneyland (2016) - the majority of those guests lining up have never ridden Dumbo before, and many very likely have not seen the movie.

Where this gets interesting is Peter Pan's Flight, because Disney has not only updated every existing Peter Pan's Flight in the last decade (WDW only got Queue updates, the others saw plussing to the attractions themselves), but they also created a totally revised version of Peter Pan's Flight to open with Shanghai Disneyland. Reportedly, there isn't much awareness of Peter Pan as a property in China, though I can't verify that myself. The core concept for the ride is the same, but nearly every element of the attraction has been outfitted with updates, from the music to the show elements to the ride system itself . . . so all those things together suggest that Disney seems to believe Peter Pan's Flight could use some revision to better endear itself to new guests.
