Pertaining to eating -- on property dining

Where are all the posts pertaining on where to eat at Disney? Sure I can find writeups all over the web, but it's a lot different to see them here from people that are able to support it by more than clicking a few stars and saying "This rules" or "This sucks." :)

Anyway, I am registering for a Honeymoon instead of the traditional route, so even though I'd prefer not to choose most of the places we'll eat and 'put it in writing', in a few days will be 180 days away and we'll need to call for reservations, so we may as well also put down on the registry pictures and information on what we'll be doing (this makes people feel like they're giving a personal gift rather than just money.)

OK I'm obviously rambling today.... :p

Where are your hands down favorite don't miss it places to eat at Disney? Where in each park?

Your favorite unique place?

Which are more romantic and which are more for kids?

We're taking our daughter in a year so we can hold off on a lot of the family friendlys but that doesn't mean we don't want a few character meals too!

Oh, P.S. my husband to be is a Chef and also a picky eater, whereas if Disney markets it, I'll try it at least once! :sohappy:

Thanks in advance.

One of our favorite places to eat is The Coral Reef in the Sea's at Epcot. Although alot of people say the food is so-so my family real ahs enjoyed the times we have eaten there. The restaurant has stadium seating because one whole wall is the glass to the aquarium. Not a bad seat anywhere but closer is better. Watch for the massive sea turtle (our son's favorite), he stops the conversation when he swims by.

For a wonderful evening for yourself and the new hubby try Victoria & Alberts. Quiet, romantic a dining experence. Each table has it's own waiter and waitress named Victoria and Albert, of course. The dinner is a set price, either with or without wine pairings. My wife and I went there for our anniversery during our trip to WDW in June 05.

We also really like The Liberty Tree Tavern, a family style sit down dinner. Characters also attend this meal, we got visited by Minnie, Chip & Dale, Pluto and Goofy.

The Dining/Food reviews are in this forum: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=84

With that being said.. my favorite breakfast is the Whispering Canyon Cafe's (WL) all you care to eat skillet breakfasts followed by Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary.
Our favorite lunch is Restaurant Marrakesh in Moracco in EPCOT followed by lunch at the Liberty Tree Tavern.
Dinner is a tossup - The Liberty Tree Tavern in the MK, Concourse Steakhouse (Contemp) or Yachtsman Steakhouse (YC).

Happy planning!

I agree on Victoria and Alberts and this is my number one choice on both being romantic and top notch dining.

You may also want to try the following which are very good restaurants that will be either romantic or not so kid friendly. Please keep in mind that this is just my opinion of the restaurants and everyone will give their own opinion. I have eaten at 99% of these restaurants. I am keeping in mind that you stated that your husband was a chef.

Yachtsman Steakhouse
Flying Fish
Spoodles
Citricos
Narcoosee
Bistro De Paris
Portabello Yacht Club
Jiko

Good Restaurants
Artist Point
California Grill
Le Chefs
Teppanyaki
LeCellier
Alfredo's
Brown Derby
San Angel Inn
Bongo's
Fultons
Wolfgang Puck

Good family restaurants with decent food

50's Prime time
Whispering Canyon
Rainforest Cafe
Cap'n Jacks
Ohana
Any character meal restaurant

As far as dinner shows, my favorite is the Hoop de Doo

I saw on the Travel Channel's Disney show about Victoria and Alberts (specifically the Chef's Table area) and it looks amazing....13 courses and a custom menu?? Wow! That sure sounds like a honeymoon treat. I guess if we don't stray from the dining packages the other days then it might be worth it. OK so we'll make that our last night :)

Do you guys feel the wine pairing is a necessity?

Off to read about the other places now!

I think you may have gotten your restaurants mixed up. The Roarin'Forks is the snack bar. Did you mean Artist Point? Thats at the top of the ramp, romantic and they serve a more exotic menu.

The menu at Artist Point looks great, but it's 2 points...is it worth it? It seems like there are so many great options that are 1 point.

Great questions!

My wife and I almost love the food at WDW as much as the attractions. We always eat way too much. That being said, here are our can't miss restaurants:

Le Cellier. This may be our favorite restaurant in all of WDW. The cheddar cheese soup, the pretzel bread and the maple creme brulee -- yum! Oh, and the entrees rock too!

Liberty Tree Tavern. Its our favorite character meal for dinner. Plenty of good food too. We also love to eat there for lunch. Great pot roast. Plus, I can get birch beer to drink. I grew up on birch beer in Philadelphia, but no one sells it in Georgia. Great treat for me.

Artist Point at WL. My wife and I have eaten at Artist Point twice, and we have had fantastic meals both times. The cedar plank salmon is awesome.

Chef Mickey's. Great variety of food, really good character experience, and the parmesan mashed potatos are to die for.

ESPN Club. LOVE the wings.

Our favorite quick service places:
Yakitori House -- I love the teryaki chicken!
Pecos Bills and Cosmic Ray's -- Good burgers and love the cheese sauce for the french fries.
Turkey legs. MMMmmm.

The best place for dessert: Beaches & Cream. Try the No Way Jose. I just love peanut butter topping. (The Mickey Premium Bar is pretty awesome too, as is the funnel cake in Epcot, and the Kaki Gori, and the pastries in Norway and France are incredible, and you can't go wrong with a soft pretzel. I guess we really like the snacks!)

Finally, I want to give a plug for the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show at the Polynesian. My wife and I went for the first time on May 5 and absolutely loved it. I have seen the show get mixed reviews. but we thought it was a really fun time. The traditional island dances were cool, as was the fire dance. Just amazing. Plus we thought the food was really good. The pineapple coconut bread was excellent, and I loved the ribs and the chicken.

We have never eaten at Victoria & Alberts. We have heard nothing but positive reviews of V&A, but I just can't bring myself to wear a jacket to dinner at WDW. I wear one every day at work, and the thought of wearing one on vacation bothers me. Maybe someday!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and honeymoon! :sohappy: We honeymooned at WDW in 1998, spending a fabulous 10 days at POFQ. We are already starting to plan a trip for our 10th anniversary in Sept. 2008, perhaps a week at GF, since we couldn't afford a deluxe resort back then.

Try allearsnet.com - they have great reviews by readers for practically every eating establishment from WDW, many currrent (and all with dates so you can know when the opinion came from). They also have the best WDW menu database on the web (sorry WDWMagic, love ya, best discussion site out there, but AllEars has the menu market cornered, especially for resorts).

Two of my favorites are Chef de France and Le Cellier. Chef de France's chef's are some of the best on property and if I recall correctly they have been written up and may have won awards for their food. Both of these are only one point.

The only place I can put a very large "Steer Clear" sign in front of is the San Angel Inn (Mexico Pavilion). There are people who like it, but I didn't even touch my plate. I understood immediately why the lighting inside is so dim: it's so you can't see your food! My mother and I both got the same dish (forget the name of it now), and the beef came out as a rubbery slab with so much connective tissue that I couldn't even slice mine apart. I wasted my dining plan meal on that, because I didn't do more than taste the two side dishes.

Maybe the chicken's better, but aside from the ambience of the place, I would never in a million years recommend it!

So there you have one place NOT to go to, anyway. LOL

Meega, nala kwishta!
Our favorite is Flying Fish. Wonderful food, service and establishment. You can't go wrong eating there.

Others I'd recommend are Jiko, Liberty Tree Tavern, Narcoosee, and Spoodles.

We are going to try out Bistro de Paris and Victoria & Alberts. So I'm looking forward to that.

Most Disney restaurants are not that intimate, but we've had as close to a romantic dinners at a few places when they were not so busy. Artist's Point comes to mind. Once at Chefs de France, and we had a great time at Jiko several times.

Have fun and eat well!
