Just a little FYI bit of news:

Saw on the local news today that last night's performance of the stage version of Mary Poppins lasted about a minute and a half before the set malfunctioned. After three quarters of an hour they cancelled the show. A weld in the set had broken.

The show is sold out for its Bristol run, so they are putting on an extra matinee on Friday for those who can make it.

Wow... that really stinks. I hope it's something that can be fixed and maintain itself in the long run. But if a weld broke, it really makes you wonder just how elaborate the sets are...

Tonight's show was scheduled to go ahead as planned.

I've seen the show - the big set is the house, the main body is on three trucks, the attic and roof come down from the fly tower on rails. When there is a scene in the attic, the main body of the house moves upstage the attic unstacks from within the roof and drops to stage level whilst the roof dissapears back into the fly tower. I would guess it was something in this roof/attic mechanism that broke.
