Paying with Disney Reward Points

I know you can pay for your hotel with Disney Reward Points, but has anyone tried to use them to book a dessert party? Or rent a cabana? I know things like that usually require a credit card; however, I was curious if I could use my Disney Rewards card since I have money to use there?

Otherwise, I can just use my points towards the vacation package. I was thinking of paying for that though with Disney Gift Cards since I get 4% off the card's value at BJs.

Not sure if this has changed but I tried to use a gift card to pay for a dessert party (back in November) and had to do it over the phone. So if you want to use Disney Rewards/Gift Card for special event pre-payments, you can't do it online....only over the phone. It's a pain when you find a reservation online and by the time you reach someone over the phone....the reservation is gone.
