Without getting into any ONE person's exact details, what kind of pay range could one expect to be in if they got a job at WDW doing any of the following (since I hear the pay isn't the best at WDW):

Ride Operator
Costumed Disney Character
Monorail Driver
Ferry Captain

I'd imagine this thread belongs in the Employment thread.

All the postions you listed would start at around $6.50. From there on, at the one year anniversary, your pay increase would vary depending on the job. Attractions gets paid the least, whereas transportation (Watercraft/Monorail) would get paid the most.

Yes... it is a low wage. However, benefits are good. Health insurance can run you an average of $5/wk... versus other places where you might be paying $50/wk... but suffice to say, you work for Disney for the love of the job, and not for the money.

What kind of YankeeFann are you, the NY kind?:) Also what kind of perks do cast members get, like discounts on food, rooms etc. and what about the cast partys? Are they free or do you have to pay etc.

Benefits vary with pay status (full time, part-time, seasonal) but I believe the perks of food, merchandise and resort (capacity limited) discounts are available to all.

Each year, cast members get a small holiday gift plus additional passes to a holiday party in the park. The party is not after hours and exclusive as it was years ago, but includes more discounts than previously.

There is also a cast recreation area with a small lake, pools, and function rooms where some work teams hold picnics from time to time.

Water parks, golf, mini golf, Pleasure Island and DisneyQuest are not free to cast members most days... but discounts and occasional comp tickets are provided.

Also, most new attraction and resort openings are preceded by Cast Previews or "Open Mouse", a perk of getting that first look that many enjoy.

One benefit that must be appreciated with caution is the opportunity to "recycle your paycheck" (to quote another poster here) with cast-exclusive merchandise including limited edition pins, t-shirts, mugs, lithographs... whatever.

WDW pay is competitive with other employers in the Central Florida area. They have Compensation Analysts whose main job is to be certain that is true.

Your Uncle (Sam) publishes those competive wage figures for Orlando at this link.

I would think the food vendors would be at the bottom of the scale since anyone can be taught to operate the popcorn cart. But the more skilled the position or if you have a special talent like performers in the Tarzan show the better the pay would.
