hello
im curious about how partnerships work in WDW. for example, with missionspace. Hp paid for the entire ride to be built? if so, what was the advantage? advertising?

It's usually something of a two-way street. In the case of attraction sponsorships, an interested company pays a percentage of the cost of a new attraction or rennovation of an existing attraction. In return, Disney will generally use that company's services as a primary vendor. For example, HP sponsors Mission: Space, and nearly every computer on property is HP. Nestle sponsors The Land, and Nesquick and Nescafe are served in most restaraunts around property.

Exactly. The sponsor doesn't pay for the ride, but they do chip in some for renovations and stuff of the sort. Disney in return uses the products.

Well, yes on the two examples, but not 100% of the time. There are occasions where the venue is 100% sponsored, such as the new Josten's Center.

As a side note.... HP was kinda stuck sponsoring Mission: Space when they bought out Compaq, who was the *original* sponsor of the attraction when it was first announced.

(Not that I'm saying that HP *didn't* want to sponsor it, I'm just saying that the contracts were already signed and were part of the merger. Though I forget if it was HP buying Compaq, or Compaq buying HP and keeping the more-recognizable name)
